I am going to try and revive this thread. The other day I was thinking about what color to paint my calipers.

With the G2 or Duplicolor is it possible to mix colors? For instance, could I mix red and gold/copper and come up with a metallic orange? Or would the cermaic based paints not mix well?

Has anyone expreimented with this? Might be interesting.

It should work fine to mix paints. Here is my red 300zx brakes on my Onyx:

I was just browsing this thread and I had the same idea. I was thinking of painting my caliper silver and painting the thin part black with silver nissan letters. My car is liquid silver I thought this would give a good transition instead of just one color. I guess I will see in a couple of weeks when I change my brakes and rotors.

Hi there, do I need to remove the calipers in order to do the paint????
How easy is to paint the calipers mounted??? If this is not the way to paint them, how easy is to remove them???

Thanks.

I painted my stock brakes without removing the calipers but if I were to do it again, I'd remove them. Only two bolts and they are off except for brake line which u really dont wanna disconnect. I painted my 300zx calipers while they were off the car, and then touched them up while on the car.

O4BlackMaxx - Ran me a little over $2K thru Discount Tire. Just did alot of research on different mesh rims before I bought. Got a lot of good feedback and advice from the org

Sorry forgot to add the rims are 19x8.5

Why not just buy Nissan logo caliper decals from Xenonmods.com? Do you really want to put a Brembo label on something that is obviously not Brembo? Just a thought.

Red ought to look hot with the pearl white.

I agree. Red with white NISSAN letters would look great.

Painted my calipers this weekend...

I spent my Saturday painting my calipers. I went with red on the onyx Maxima and white Nissan decals. I may change it to black calipers with silver decals in the future (I like how JiuJitsu's looks).

For now, let me know what you all think:

Well, I agreethat the 300zx calipers are much more dynamic looking which is why I got them. But painting the OEM calipers is a ncie quick way to go until you decide to really upgrade the brakes. I got many compliments from painting my calipers and some people thought they were bigger brakes. I realyl am pleased with my Z brakes and its great bang for the buck.

Exactly, I am not the most mechanically savvy person on the forum and I did it myself. I didn't even unbolt the calipers from the rotors because I may still change the color later.

Just jack up your car, remove the tire, mask off the boots and brake pad clips and paint away. Just plan to do it when you don't need your car for a day. You need to allow about 12-24 hours to let the paint set up. And the deals are uber-easy.

Also, with wheels that big and that transparent, you really should. IMO, on smoke, either red or black would look the best. Offset either color with silver decals.

Well I bought the black G2 caliper paint kit and i got silver nissan decals. Just need to do it I guess, but I dont even have a usable garage or driveway, and i couldnt see myself doing this on the street, which is also why id rather just take it to a shop or something....

I lightly sanded mine just to get the surface rust off of them. I was really surprised that one had rusted and also how little paint was actually on them from the factory (which is probably why my left front was starting to rust). I personally like having the texture on them, so I just lightly sanded by hand.

I sanded my stock calipers down til they were smooth. When I did my 300zx calipers, I filed off the "SUMITOMO" letters and some other numbers and they looks SOOOOOOO much better.

Nice work! You can't even see where you filed that stuff off.
