Ticking under the dash

So I get in my car after work, put the keys in, seat and sterring wheel slide to me. And a sound comes, a loud ash ticking noise from under the dask, around the steering column. Shut the car off, start it again, same thing. Go to my options shut off the power seat and steering wheel, start the car up again and the sound is still there. Kinda like a broken motor gear, but in what, everything worked fine.

After 15 mins of freaking out in the damn cold, it went away and haven't heard of it since?

Anyone?

Seems like when it is cold my max makes noises it normally does not. They always go away after it warms up.

Come to think of it, every car I have ever owned has exhibited the same characteristic, but it always annoys me.

umm i dunno...but iknow like the relays that control the up/down fuction of the steering column are located behind the dash, they make a clicking noise when they function. you wont hear it but only when you superhearing has been activated...you know those days when you are more sensitive..

anywayz..also the shift bar..when you move it out of park to get it to go down..it makes a clickng noise also...you will hear it more if the car is off and the key is on the acc section... all the clicks i hear on my car i dunno where they come from but i know they are realys... i hope thats what your case is...

Luigi << got a headheache..

Andymax95. If the noise is a continuous clicking under the dash, try this: right from the sticky tsb 05110 for max built before 5/16/05

http://www.nissanhelp.com/Ownership/.../NTB05-110.htm

A way to confirm this is to turn off the a/c and switch modes. Sound should go away and go to stealership for fix.

Well I will tell you what I think it is. The door solenoid is located by the gas pedal. It is two of them down there. I had this happen to me earlier this year. I thought it was in the steering column also. When you hear the noise put your head down by the gas pedal. You can unplug each one to see which one it is coming from.

So what came from your situation. Did the dealer replace it or you just dealing with it?

the sound definetly came from around the bottom portion of the steering column. That shizal was so loud that it was creating a little vibration.

Man take ur car to da dealer or how "mikedinero2000" says the stealership. If ur under warranty be demanding. Just remember that ur paying for an expensive ride and I think that its fair for the dealer to do their job to find and fix ur problem.

I took my car to the stealership today for that reason. It was the arm that went into the actuator that was loose. They took care of it under warranty.

My Max made the exact clicking noise last week, it definately came from the steering column area. It sounds like plastic gears clicking or something. I have no idea what it was!

still haven't had a reoccurence. So to me, no problems no worries. Plus right now its more important to watch some tv in the car then to deal with a noise that makes the car sound likes its gonna blow up. Priorities first

HOLY SHIZNIT!!! This just happened to me and Scared the FARK out of me... It right behind the ignition area, which looks like the part listed in that TSB above.. THANKS SO MUCH.. I was changing the settings on my a/c and it started doing it, i got it to stop by pressing a bunch of buttons on it, and it finally stopped. Now that i know what it is, i will make sure they repair it under warrenty. What ticked me off was that they said Nissan doesnt offer Loner Cars AT ALL.. I think that is BS if its covered under warrenty.

THANKS SO MUCH.... now i gotta get my trunk to open... ARG!!

Oh, and BTW to those who havent experienced this, the NOISE IS REALLY LOUD!! SERIOUSLY FRIGGING LOUD!!

hey guys w/ respect to unexpected noises.....
i rarely am outside my car when its running because the best place to be when the maxima is powered up is behind the wheel...but yesterday as i finished changing my oil and while the hood was up i noticed an odd noise ..it sounds like a servo jockying or maybe a solenoid opening and closing.....im wondering is that normal and if so it the drive by wire feeding fuel via solenoid ?? does anyone have any ideas.....?

just got mine fixed for it happening for the second time.. it is the actuator door getting stuck, put it in defroster mode and the ticking will go away until you get it fixed..

oh and also, my dual climate control does not work, dealer ordered parts and i hope it will be fixed by the end of this week.

ticking

Unfortunately my 2005 has the same problem. Unfortunately the part is on nationwide backorder. The dealer has lent me a car -It has been 1 1/2 weeks and they still do not know when they will get the part. Very poor support from Nissan. Certainly not a way to foster brand loyalty.
