What is that sensor doing there?

On my way to work, I hit a piece of metal on the road, couldn't be avoided due to traffic. The engine shut down. I had to coast through traffic w/ no power until I pulled off the road. I couldn't restart the car. It turned out to be the AT temp sensor(?), the sensor at the very bottom of the AT. The harness clip broke to pieces, and Nissan said I have to buy the whole transmission harness. Can anyone confirm this? I'll try to get pics in the morning. The debrie also crack the bottom of factory airdam, which could be a good reason to go aftermarket

I smell magnunson act written all over it and good luck plus why would nissan designers put a sensor that low or not even put a shield around a major sensor like that again good luck and hope it all works out in your favor

Sorry to hear that. I don't think that would be covered under warranty. How much is the piece? Can you reinstall it yourself?

Huh? why would that be filed under Warrantee work. The driver hit the debris, avoidable or not. It's not the cars fault. There are many cars on the road with a sensor on the underside of the car. Fact is most all AT temp sensors are located on the bottom, side, or internal to the AT oil pan.

Fact is Sh.it Happens... Don't expect someone else to pay for it because it happened.

RHMax, I have no real advice, but then I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. I hope everything works out in the end.

Definitely not covered by warranty. I haven't had a chance to call for price yet, all I know is it's called transmission harness. I can claim insurance, but my deductable is $500, so it depends on how much it will cost. Look wise, it's not that bad. I drove the car around today w/ no problems. I'm going to call some junkyards too, they might have some.
