Fogs!

Once again my factory fog light bulb blows. Drivers side first, that was replaced, now the passenger side goes out.
I want to put the best bulbs i can in, and the whitest.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Jon

Just a suggestion from someone that has gone through a few fog bulbs (PIAA, ebay, etc)....

If you are blowing factory bulbs, there is an issue with the wiring. Those should not blow so soon (you have an 05 right?). If you are blowing factory bulbs, you WILL blow aftermarket replacements as well (especially the high intensity XTREME PIAA GT-Xs I think they are called). That can get expensive.

Right now I went with the yellow PIAAs that jsmith recommended and I love them.

I'll keep you guys updated on how long they last but according to jsmith, his are still going strong after 2 years.

I can't win with fog either, i ordered luminics jdm yellow fogs ( lifetime warranty), blew them, ordered another pair, blew them, got back the first pair new, blown again, got the second purchase back new, and they blew again, so now i have no fog lights that work, i give up.

Funny you bring this up. I have an 04 sl and my passenger side went out first then just two days ago I replaced my driver'sside. It is hell getting to them and they blow out. I'm not saying it is difficult but it is annoying work. I have seen the hid sets in the group deal section for $265 shipped. That is a good price for them but I don't want to keep replacing them. I would suggest leaving them off if you don't need them. I have seen a couple of max's in my area with one fog light off. I guess this is not a safety issue so nissan probably won't do a recall. I am constanly checking mine when I get behind a car. It sounds like a wiring issue. It seems like there maybe a surge getting though the wires thus breaking the element. Maybe if enough of us complain Nissan will do something about it.

my fogs also burned out again a few weeks ago, just yesterday i picked up a set of H3 55w sylvannia bulbs from the auto store for like 15 bucks and they are bright as .. do yourself a favor and dont waste your money on expensive light bulbs.. especially if they have been burning out time and time again.. just my opinion..

I have a new theory on the fogs burning out....... (btw the new yellows I have are still going strong and lookin good!), but with them being a completely different color than the HIDs I noticed something.......

Before, the fogs I would buy were either white or "extreme" white so I never noticed that when you flash your brights, the fogs go off.

Not that I use my brights that often (usually to signal cars into my lane), but just like turning your HIDs on and off shorten the life of the bulbs, could this be the same reason the fogs are blowing??

just a thought.

I understand your concept, but I'm gonna go with a big fat NO. Here's a theory, most of these after market fogs are 55w but say they have a brightness of a lamp that is 100 watts(relativley speaking). So maybe the whole voltage conversion with the fog fixture isn't being read properly.

When I replaced my other fog last week, it was missing the glass casing, like it got so hot and blew and the others the filement blows up within the casing leaving a melted yellowish rainbow color on the bulb casing.

I have a good solution that I've been using: Don't use the fogs cause they are complete sh*t

Purchased my Max in Sept 2003, still have original working fog lights. I agree, you may have a faulty wiring issue...

Work the warranty dude, you are paying for a problem that will not go away. This is your one opportunity before your bumper to bumper warranty expires, don't fu%ck it up...

2.4 yrs with my max, ZERO fog light problems...

Well, an update!
took my Max to Nissan for a warranty replacement of the fog light bulb and chrome roof strips.
Well to make a long story short, they blammed my Alarm(clifford) that was causing the lights to blow....bullsh*t. They said they checked the light on another car and it worked.....lied!! Well i picked up my car went straight to auto zone bought 2 new Sylvannia Silverstars. Which was a ***** to change in front of auto zone but i did it. Guess what the factory bulbs.....blow, so it was not the alarm.....and bullsh*t that they checked them. So now the Silverstars are in and are not as white as the HID's but whiter and brighter than the stocks H3 bulbs...I recommed the H3 silverstars....18.99 each.

Well, since you just put the Silverstars in, I would say the jury is still out.
Let us know in 6-12 months how they fare. I suspect they will blown by then, just like many of the other bulbs tried.

I think from the evidence and discussion that there is a problem with the design - likely too much voltage hitting the bulbs for some reason. Some owners seem to have this design flaw worse than others. Perhaps some that don't have the problem don't have some of the other options (or have more options) on the car, making the electrical difference.

Trick to installing headlight and foglight bulbs is wipe the grease from your fingers off of them. they will blow prematurely if you dont

well from my experience with the silverstars, they last about ~2 to ~3 years before going out. how are you guys installing your bulbs? any accidental finger contact on the bulb itself can cause it to die prematurely.
