I GUARANTEE you, 100% that the handbrake boot is rubber, and not leather. The shift **** on my 6 speed is plastic with rubber also. That much is a certainty.

The steering wheel cover material appears to be at issue. The 06 Maxima and 350Z I saw yesterday seem to have similar material to each other and appear to be leather, and the stitching is clearly seen. MY steering wheel seems to have fake stitching and it doesnt seem like leather to me. I believe it is the same rubber shzit that the handbrake boot and cover is made from. I think its still up in the air.

RE: Leather.. in the event that anyone has cloth seats and was looking to get leather. I would strongly recomend looking into a "Katzkin" leather upholstery upgrade. I had my '04 SE redone and it cost me $1275.00. The quality is great and it looks as good if not better then the factory leather that I have seen on other Maxima's. They even re-upholstered the door panels and the strip around the dash in leather. If anyone is interested you can check out the katzkin line @ www.katzkin.com . For $1275 you will not be dissapointed.

I'll try and snap some pictures tomorrow and will see if I can post them. I'm new to the site and am not sure what kind of access I have. From the looks of things it appears that they dissasembled the doors to do the panels. I was very pleased and was unaware when I paid them, that the panels were included. Needless to say I was not dissapointed. In the event that I can't post pic's you can post your email and I'll send you pics.

So if they advertised it as leather is there a way we can get them to change it if it is not?

What do you mean by fake stitching? I just took another close look at mine and not only is the stitching not perfect, I can actually see where the thread stitch material itself,is tucked in at the seems between the steering wheel spoke and where the leather meet. Do you not see actual thread on yours? I think this is totally strange. Also did you buy your car brand new? I am wondering if some wheels have actually been replaced for some reason and are not leather.

06 Steeringwheel

Can the lit 06 steering wheel replace an 05 non lit steering wheel while preserving the heat, controls and light2?

I looked at my friend's G35 steering wheel today and there is little question in my mind that mine is rubber molded to look like leather. There is no stitching around the joints and there appears to be fake stitching, as I have said before, around the inside perimeter. The material appears to feel different too.

Is there a way to post pic's on this site without having to load your pic's to an online web service?

Here are the pics of my 04 SE with the Kaztkin leather upgrade. Katzkin offers a lot of different colors and patters/inserts. I went with the standard look but if you are an adventerous purson they have some pretty wild things you can do. If anyone is interested in pursuing this... I paid $1275/installed and that included the two front buckets, rear bench, all four door panels, and the strip around the front of the dash.

i have asked the parts department at my local dealership and they informed me that the 2006 maxima steering wheel is not compatible with the 04-05 maxima models because of the lit controls in the 2006 model. i wanted to get the 06 steering wheel because the 06 has the lit controls on the steering wheels..

Deus, can you post a pic of your steering wheel? This will help us get an idea of what you're looking at.

ok, i've looked at my 02 black leather seats from the inside... and here is how it looks: only seating surfaces APPEAR to be leather-like material; everithing else - sides, back, etc. are 100% SYNTHETIC, no ? about it. But it's 5th gen, don't know about 6th tho.

I understand that 6th gens are the same- leather seating, but fake sides and back. I have a pic of my steering wheel. Im gonna go to work and snap a pic of my friend's G35 steering wheel where u can clearly see stitiching where none is present in mine.
