This is the first that I'm hearing it, so it's news to me.

So if the Max inherit's the Infinity's engine, what does the Infinity get? That must be some crazy power! (And what's the gallons per mile for all that crazy power?)

mmotown - Your service manager should have explained that the 300 HP Maxima arriving in 2008 is actually the 7th generation Maxima, which should debut in spring of 2008 as the 2009 model. Just as several of us have been predicting in this thread.

Nissan does not 'redo' a vehicle for only one model year, so when we got word last summer of the 'redo' for the 2007 model year, we knew one thing immediately: the 'redo' of the Maxima for 2007 assured us that the 2008 model year Maxima will be almost exactly the same as the 2007.

Knowing that, we were fairly safe in predicting the 7th gen would debut with the 2009 Maxima. And knowing Nissan usually brings out each new generation Maxima in the spring, we could surmise a spring 2008 date for release of the 2009 7th gen Maxima.

300 HP has a good 'ring' to it, and will be more than sufficient power for a FWD vehicle.

The questions I have regarding the 7th gen Maxima include these:

1 - Will there be an AWD option? (I think there may well be)
2 - Will the auto tranny be 6 speed? (I think it will)
3 - Will the CVT tranny be in 'no', 'some' or 'all' Maximas? (I think 'some')

I wouldnt be suprised nor is the number very flooring to me anyway...a gain of 35hp from one model year to the next is all this amounts to. Yes, the 298hp infiniti is the writing on the wall...it is also rwd, and is not heads and shoulders the most powerful in its class....In 2008 300hp will be even less significant. You have to ask youself what this really would do for the car, I honestly dont think we will see any real world benifits coming from a 265hp version. They need to keep up with the competition, thats all this is doing...nothing too exciting to me. If they decided to change it to RWD as many american cars are now becoming, and perhaps offer a V8 option like on the M35/45...or GS330/430...then everyone would take pause because a new beast would be coming...It probably wont happen because this isnt Nissans premier sport luxury sedan...they want you to trade up to infiniti for that level of power.

OK, no slam, lets just take the info, ball it up, leave it in the corner and come back to it in 2 years...

AWD is inevitable, since Altima is getting there too. I expect the price of the 7th gen Max to start at $30k, w/ all these "improvements".

The 7th gen Maxima will rival the Lincoln Navigator in terms of size and wheel gap.

yea, thanks for the heads up but who ever you talked to that said the only difference is the intake, is full of $hit. that is only the beginning. if that were the case we would all be running around with infiniti intakes and claiming 298 hp.

I remeber a dealer guarenteeing RWD by 2006

But it will only make sense that the 7th gen would go in this direction.

It is very interesting how the auto industry has been going more power while gas contiunes upward. How likely will there be Maxima: SL(FWD Auto) SE(RWD 6Auto, 6Man) X(AWD 6Auto, 6Man) and H(FWD CVT Hybrid)

300 hp would be nice I guess. This may sound crazy but 300hp and fuel efficiency doesn't go together. By 2009 gas might cost 4.50 per gallon. Besides with the new sae testing for horse power might drop off if they test the max by these new standards. Just ask all the tl owners who saw that there 270 was actually 258. I know there is no change in performance but hp numbers attract people to some cars. On the other hand there were some vehicles whose hp was pushed up by this testing. I'll wait until the 2008 spring relaese. There is too much speculation in these parts. I'm patient enough to wait.

All sounds too good to be true. Bringing up the TL sae recalculation, any word on if the maxima's HP rating has been recalculated? and if it stands at 265hp does that mean it was underrated to begin with?

i dont think nissan will offer any of these option we are talking about because if a max has 300hp, awd or rwd it would be pratically the same price as a infiniti and be honest what would you buy a 300hp max, or a infiniti g35 which has better resale value and is consider a luxury car compare to the max, we would have maximas at dealership like they are chevys, no one buying them

The VQ35 in the 350Z has a 300HP version. It's the same VQ35 in the Infiniti's (FX 35, G35, and I think the M car), the Altima and the V-6 Murano. The differences IMO are in tuning of the intake, exhaust, cams and computer. It makes sense that they will retune the max to 300HP considering all the asian cars coming out with 250, 270+HP now. Nissan has to stay ahead of the game. And speaking of AWD...does anyone else see a resemblence between the AWD Infinity M car and the Maxima? Are they the same base for the body? If so, then AWD is just a little tweaking away...

oh yea by the way the reason its going to be 300hp is not the intake, its becuase its going to have the 4.0 in it.

its ok either way, when it comes out ill just say i told ya so ;p

Hey Guys. I have to agree with the 300 hp version of the Max. I heard the same thing from Body Shop manager of a dealership up here in Montreal. There will definately be an AWD version and my guess is that they are going to drop the 4 liter version that's in the new Pathfinder. The 07 G35 Coupe is one sexy looking machine from the pics I've seen in some of the latest car magazines. Some of those mags are talking about 320 - 340 stock HP in the
G35 Coupe! Then there those after market super-chargers that squeeze in to the engine bay. The small centrifugal supers add an extra 30- 40 hp. This is all very strange talk given that the price of a liter of super was $1.08 last week! There are aprox 3.5 of those in a US gallon. That's not good!
Maybe a hybrid is on the way?

300 HP just sounds so much better than 265, which is probably the only reason they're bothering, I mean, it's not like we're all here complaining about how weak our engines are.

Bottom line, the Max will have to come in at 300HP or above by 2008. Most cars the Max is up against in 2006 are already closing in on 300HP. In order to compete, you must meet or beat!

If you add an intake, headers, exhaust, pulley and tune it you already have a 300 HP Maxima (~240whp).

The Avalon of all cars comes with a 280HP 3.5L engine now, the max should at least as powerful as toyota's old people car.

THere are numerous others hovering around 235-245.
