help with my new maxima.....

Hello to all the org members out there. After recently getting my 04 SE maxima...... i find myself wondering alot of things... so forgive me if i am asking newb questions.

1. Do I have HID lighting or Halogen? I went to autozone and when they went to look up my headlights it came back with the D2R or something of that nature and they said I have HID...... but after reading many posts..... I have seen that the 04 max came with 2 different options. (ps my lights glow a yellowish color so Im taking it as them being Halogen.)

2. Upon buying my car, I didnt take up on the option for the extended warrenty from carmax. Does anyone have a suggestion on where and about what price I should get mine from?

3. I noticed reading one of the stickys that since my came with leather that I have a special sensor option on my vehicle. What exactly is that and how does that differ from the base SE model?

I know these are probably dumb questions ........ but you guys seem to know your stuff and have been very helpful.

-Thanks a bunch.......... new life long .org member ;]

1. You have the 9012 halogen HIR bulbs. They are close the the total light output of an HID system but are still halogen based. Cost is $30/bulb to replace. There is no current upgrade other than HID for a lighting system that puts out more light. However a 9006 bulb will fit, you can choose the colour of that bulb, but you will always have less light output than your OEM HIR bulb.

2. Fax all the dealerships in the area. Ask them to bid on the Nissan extended warranty by a certain date. Be specific in what package you want, and when the closing date for bids is. Then wait and see who has the lowest price. Take it back to your dealerships salesman (black out the dealerships name on the bid) and ask him if since you bought the car from him, can he do any better.

3. No idea. First I've heard of that.

Welcome to the 6th gen club. All the cool kids hang out here.

Stare into the headlight for ten seconds, close your eyes and what color do you see.

If Halogen = you will see orange glow on the back of your retina.
If Xenon = you will see a white glow on the back of your retina.
If Nothing = your legaly blind now so you mind as well walk infront of a bus.

LOL.

Good luck and let us know.

My 2004 SE has HID Xenon headlights.

On the very bottom of the lens housing on the outside it should read

DOT Vol D2S if they are HID

What Nismo said to be sure.

Anyone know what temp the factory lights are? Are they 6k or higher? I just wondering if I can buy different temperature bulbs or I have to swap to new ballasts as well.

correction for canadian. There is a direct replacement HID package. The Part number is H13. I believe you can still contact maximabest, he sells the set for less than $300.

I think you confused people when you said you have a "special sensor option". The sensory package is made up of multiple options. Per Nissan's website:

3.5 SE SENSORY PACKAGE $2,350.00

- Leather-appointed seats
- Heated front seats
- Heated outside mirrors
- 4-way power front-passenger's seat
- Digital compass in rearview mirror
This package includes all 3.5 SE Premium Audio Package items

There is no 900X halogen light out there that is brighter than the 9012. Pretty much the only way to get more light is to go HID. The cost of that being in the $300 range, compared to so called halogen "ugrades" at $30-$100.

Also..the H13 bulb you are talking about is a dual filament bulb meant for replacing a 9004/9007 bulb. It's not appropriate for this application.

I think that the heater outside mirrors didn't come out until the 05 or 06 (I'm thinking 06...). Since he pulled it off of the current website, this doesn't apply to the 04. I, too, have an 04 and am pretty sure I don't have this option.

+2 I have the heated mirrors on my 04 sl. Hit the rear defrost, wait a few seconds and touch the side view. It should be warm.

I have a package that contains the features you described above, but since I also have the navigation my rearview mirror does not have a compass. Isit possible for me to get the rearview mirror with the compass? The compass on the navigator has a "needle" that points north -- while easy to determine it takes a moment of thought to understand which directoin I am driving. I would like to have the display in the mirror that reads "NE", "SW" etc. for convenience. Can I install a new mirror that has this feature?

Back to the headlight bulbs: I have a 2006 Max SE with what I assume are the 9012 headlamps. IMO these absolutely suck! I love this car, but it has the worst headlights of the last several vehicles I've owned. Very poor, yellowish light output and don't seem aimed correctly (2 Nissan dealers said they are not adjustable). Other than buying HID headlamps, I guess I have no options here in terms of a bulb upgrade?

...or you can also add an extra set of fog lights near the front bumper...

The dealer is trying to screw with you. The headlights are adjustable on these cars. I have read several threads about the headlights that were adjusted. You could also get the hid upgrade from some sellers on this site. Prices seems pretty good for them. I hope I'm not wrong but I really believe they are adjustable. Check some of the old threads I think they may be in the stickies also and show you how to adjust them.
