Quick question about squeaky belt..

Guys, i am expeirencing a squeaky belt under the hood... would this be covered under warrenty (i am <30K).. I have to take it in tommorrow, and wanted to know if this will be a problem.. It sounds like the air conditioning compressor, or something like it.. water pump?? It used to start up and then shut off, now it is a little constant.. any clue what it could actually be?? thanks

I have a squeak under the hood that happens only when the engine is cold. I left it at the dealer overnight after a service once and they said they didn't hear the noise. When I went to pick up the car, it was making a squeaking noise. The service man heard the noise, but by the time a mechanic came out to check it the noise stopped.

If I had to guess, it's a pully or the tensioner. But since the mechanic can't pinpoint the noise they won't do anything about it. They said to just keep driving until whatever is making the noise fails.

Mine squeaks when it is cold outside also. The dealer of course cannot pinpoint it. I got some belt dressing and sprayed it on the serpetine belt and the noise has stopped. I don't know if this will solve your problem but give it a shot. I also checked to see if there were any cracks in the belt I didn't see any. It seems like when the car is cold sometimes the belt take a while to warm up. Once warm the problem goes away. My squeak was low pitched not like some cars I hear where the belt could wake you up.

well even after mine has warmed up, and ive driven a while and stop, it will still have a whining sound.. i am just worried about it.. Most likely a warn belt or something to that nature.. will this be covered you think, under my warrenty, or do you think itll be big $$$ to repair/replace.... probably worrying over nothing, but i bought this car used, so i dont know..

30k miles should still be under the bump2bump warranty. Try to get it fixed before 36k

just call. that can't hurt. or even call Nissan. I thought seatbelts were Unlimited or atleast the longest possible warranty item.
