Possible Thefts??

Well...
Miami...
High Crime...
Today I was tailed into my Complex on my way home..totaly freaked me out. I even went to the security guard and told him to please watch my car. Made my wife move her car so I can get the close spot(she has an 06 Altima SE V-6 fully loaded).
HID headlights here fly of cars in the blink of an eye, G35's, MAxima's, Porsche, Infiniti, MB, VW Toureg. I see them all the time without headlights driving around during the day.
My question is as follows:
Is there any way to protect the headlights from being stolen easily? How hard are the lights to remove? Can I have alarm pins installed behind the headlights just incase someone tries, they will set off the alarm? How much do the HID headlights cost at the Stealership?
I hope I dont sound like a paranoid dumba**, but I love my MAX.
Thanks
VQ

i just registered to help you out and ease your mind! lol it is nearly impossible imo to steal the headlights........i jsut recently wanted to get to my headlights and u have to take off the whole front bumper to take the actual headlight out....unless they get a dremel and know exactly where to cut through the bumper/hood to get to the 4 screws that hold the lamp in place

Miami, they use things called crow bars and screwdrivers and pry sh*t off without any regard for fenders, hoods, grills. They dont care about the headlight itself, they want the bulbs and ballasts. If they can get the whole thing off w/o breaking anything you will see them for sale on ebay.

I don't have hid's, but I'm afraid some dumba$$ will mistake the halogen lense for hid and bust up my max for nothin'

Well at least they are harder to steal than the older gens...I've taken them out and it is a b!tch. Just stoked my Max sleeps in the garage (the 1st year and a half it was outside unguarded!)

I agree with both posts above:

Move to Greenville, SC -Worst crime? Driving off without paying for fuel pumped.

Put the baby in a garage!

Good luck.....

You shouldn't have to worry about that, there is a stamp right on the lens that tells you if it is hid (D2S).

your logic does not apply to idiotic thieves. I said it before to the 5th genners and they didn't pay me any mind. Then more than one member had his halogens stolen. I think one received more damage and the lights left there once realized they weren't HID.

Best defense is a garage, followed by an aftermarket alarm/pager, and good insurance. If they want it, they will take it. Any measure you take to make it more difficult, will likely only cause more damage (i.e. Data Dots)

You should put an alarm on each headlight that gives off an electronic shock about 10,000 volts to anyone who touches it while its armed

If it doesn't fit their Ford pick ups, or if it isn't mandated by Jesus, or Budwiser, and if it doesn't drive for NASCAR, it's safe here.

Just don't talk smack about Jesus, Nascar or their Pickups, and you're safe here.

(BTW, I'm not sure they would know a Maxima if she ran them off the road)!

Theives are not known for being smart. Like Nismo said they don't pay much attention to detail. That's why they are lossers. You may have a few that will wait to see if you have the hid's. Some even know how to make sure. One way is most sl's come standard with them like I have. Look on ebay they are on there all the time. People can't have **** with theses crooks. I have to keep an eye on mine also. In the dc area we have a bunch of kiddie car theives. They are mostly joy riders but you also have the pros.

It doesn't matter where you live. These sc*mbags are all over the place. Maybe e-bay should ask some questions when these are put up for sale. Also the buyer should ask. Maybe they are buying the ones that were stolen off their car.

Wouldn't that be funny. You go to ebay and get the lights and they are the ones off your car .

Unless its in a garage, you really cant do anything about it...if no garage, have an alarm that activates if the car is touched...I agreee that the fact they are hard to get wont matter if its a brazen thief...they probably wont know how hard it is untill they have totally f'd up the car.

Yeah I agree with most of you here.
Since I dont have a garage..I have to think of something else.
I have another post asking about wheel locks. Are they worth it? and if so what is recommended. I think im more worried about my NISMO wheels than the lights. Or wait...Sh$t both! Damn that would suck. How about the Greddy? Are they eye ballin my whole car? Its a guy in a Mazda Milenia, what is on my car that could fit his?????

If you feel this car was following you should have drove around the area to make sure and not have went to your home. I would have drove to the nearest police station. Thats one reason that there should be plates on the front of the car. You would of least been able to get his plate number and report it.

Someone needs to find this idiot and put my size 12 in his ****! That auction should have raised a red flag with ebay but what do they care. I bet if they were to go to his address or shop I'll bet it's a chop shop. I know this sounds crazy but I also blame nissan. The 5.5 gen's came standard with hid's and thet were getting stolen as soon as they came out. They could have made the 6th gen standard to stop the thefts. Atleast that would cut down on the thefts to people that had an accident and trying to duck insurance. Oh what was I thinking why would you give up a cash cow like that for 800-1000 each. They could have also slightly changed the way they are mounted so they won't fit in a car with halogens.

The solution seems really simple but nissan and thieves are having a field day raking in cash. Atleast if they don't fit the crook would have to figure out ways to mount them. These are some of the simple ways to cut down on things like headlight theft. I guess in the maentime if you don't have a garage you might have to sleep in your car lol. An alram is next but you have to hope it is within pager/sound range. Oh and don't go to the club.

Wow well that totally changes my prespective on Miami. I would suggest installing alarm because if they dont care about ure car there is a chance that they will set of a alarm when trying to steal it. I know as soon as i get my max i am gonna install a 530 dollar alarm in the car. I get it for about 200 with my employee discout. Best Buy is great
