C/E Y-Pipe
C/E Y-Pipe
I have a few question on the C/E Y-Pipe.....
1. What gains have people noticed with it?
2. How easy or difficult was the install?
3. And was it worth the money?
Thanks in advance!

This and a CAI were the first mods I did. I think they helped but I felt a bigger gain after the cat back system, not because the cat back helped that much but because it completed the system. The more air moves in and out efficiecntly the better the engine will work. There is a huge crimp in the cat back exhaust piping that has to restrict the airflow.
The install was about 1 hr, if you have basic skills you can do it yourself, the newer the car the better so heat and time have not had a chance to weld the bolts to the exhaust parts.
I bought mine used so it was a good deal, I have not seen many used, Redline was supposed to have one out for $175 but I have not heard any more about it.

I got mine about 2 months ago.....like greg said....more gain with full catback...but install wasnt bad....just a lil elbow grease and your all set...not much of a difference in sound also(mostly low end)......I know it was worth it.
i put on my y pipe and didnt really notice a diff? but it is a luxury car so i dunno if i would feel a diff.... but i ll get the cat back without mufflers and maybe it can help... can anyone help me with a cat back without muffler

if you are going this way, I would go to a muffler shop and have them take out the flat spot on the oem exaust, and just get magnaflow mufflers on the stock pipes.
if you wanna keep the stock mufflers, just the straight pipe should be cheap..

IMO, a combination of an UR Pulley, CAI, CE Y-pipe, and catback exhaust gave me some nice gains over stock. However I will post numbers when Dyno'ed this April, now that I have the APEX-S AFC installed...

According to articles on www.nissanperformancemag.com, the UR pulley adds 5 hp and 3 ft-lbs of torque. Y-PIPE with CAI about 20WHP.
Without a cat at end of the Y-pipe, will I pass VA emissions? Isn't there a third O2 sensor after the Y somewhere that may activate the MIL lamp?

There is no "third" O2 sensor on our cars, there is one in front of the main cat. So even if you remove the main cat, the EMS will not even know it is gone and you don't have to worry about throwing a code.

y-pipe on 02-06 make little power. my 02 with a cattman y and a freankencar intake did 218/228 tq, not sure how the 6th gens tq is low. have HS make headers, most 02-03 guys gain 30+ WHP, cuase we lose the precats...

Good to hear that they are available for 2005 5AT. I have a question for those of you who have them. Should I get a Y-Pipe first or a catback exhaust system first? I already have CAI and like it but want to pair it with another mod in the exhaust area. Any thoughts on what I should do next? Thanks
Check out my Ebay cat back thread. I bought the Y pipe first and then put the cat back on and the two of them combined is the best combo. I have a pic of the stock cat back with the big crimp in the middle of the pipe. I bought the cat back from ebay for $480 shipped, now the price has been reduced to $440 shipped, figures.....
Group buy for 2004 auto is current in the Group Buy section. Anyone with a 6 speed please PM Nick to see if we can persuade him to get a deal for the manual version too. Of course this is motivated by my own greed for the y-pipe at a great discount!
Hell's yeah! I was online with CE yesterday talking to someone about the same thing. They said they only had 1 more y-pipe for the auto left and that it wold be a few weeks to get more.
The price totalled $315 IIRC.
