RUST !!!! (long post)
RUST !!!! (long post)
While washing my car, I noticed the paint was "brusied and bubbly" looking around one corner of the skyview. I went directly to the dealer to have them check it out. They contract out paint issues to some local yahoo so I had to go over there. He looked at it and said that the car was rusting under the paint and that's what made the paint look like that. Obviously the guy that changed the glass in the skyview recall did something when he changed the glass. The contractor said it was an easy fix and under warranty. Well the service manager called me and said that since I have 40K miles on it that the work wasn't under warranty. I told him that I have an extended warranty and that should cover everythnig. He said that it didnt cover paint issues. I said paint issues? The car has rust on it. That's what's jacking the paint up. A two year old car shouldnt have rust on it. We went back and forth and I ended up calling the Big Nissan guys. They agreed that rust and paint isn't covered in ANY WARRANTY but the problem seems to have come from the glass install. So I'm waiting for someone at Big Nissan to call me back. I can't believe this crap is happening. Now my car has been at the dealer for two days. If they say I have to pay for the work and this rental car I'm going off on everybody at the dealership and I'm going to call Big Nissan back and go off on whoever answers the phone.
JayMAX - Having never had rust issues with any of the Maximas I have driven over the past twenty plus years, I'm no expert in this area.
But I do know this: If rust appears on my Maxima that is just a few years old, it will be fixed at Nissan's expense. I guarantee you that.
There is no way Nissan should be able to deny you this coverage. Even if the rust was as a result of a slipup by the company repairing the skyview, that is still Nissan's responsibility, as that was work being done FOR NISSAN AT NISSAN'S EXPENSE BECAUSE OF A GLASS FOUL-UP BY EITHER NISSAN OR A NISSAN GLASS SUBCONTRACTOR.
My dealer would NEVER try to push this situation off on me. He would eat it out of pocket if Nissan dared deny their responsibility.
You do have certain coverages on your Maxima, and rusting has to be one such coverage.

http://www.nissanusa.com/content/0,,sctid-51144,00.html. Checkout the downloadable warranty. There is a 60 month unlimited warranty against corrosion. It sounds like they are jerking you around. 40k miles is not out side of the warranty since the mileage is unlim. If it comes to it take the warranty book to the dealer and let them know you are not going to walk away.
