Upgraded Alternator???

i am in the procees of putting a rather large audio system in the max. The first question is does anybody know what the alternator output is? the second question is does anybody know where i can get a new alternator with alot of output. each amp that i am running wants a 100amp fuse in line with it, and i am running three of them. any ideas would be appreciated

This is what the service manual states about the stock alty.

Generator
Type: TG12C014 - Valeo
Nominal rating: 12V-110A
Ground polarity: Negative
Minimum revolution under no-load (When 13.5 volts is applied): 1100 rpm
Hot output current (When 13.5 volts is applied):
More than 27A/1,500 rpm
More than 90A/2,500 rpm
More than 112A/5,000 rpm
Regulated output voltage: 14.2 - 14.6V @ 25C
Minimum length of brush: 4.4 mm (0.173 in)
Brush spring pressure: 1.8 - 3.1 N (0.184 - 0.32 kg, 0.40
Slip ring minimum outer diameter: 12.0 mm (.47 in)
Rotor (Field coil) resistance: 2.3 ohms

Can't help u with the second part

Wont having an extra battery or a large capacitor take care of the problem?

I think you posted over on 6thgen, but a cap, an upgrade to the alti wires will do..

the very best thing you can possibly get is a BATCAP read how it works, if you go the second battery way, this is the way to go..

With large power-sucking audio systems, sometimes you need a larger alternator to recharge the battery/batteries. I'm no expert, but I know this to be the case in some situations.

Yeah a cap will do....i cant see that big of a system going into your car where u need a bigger alt.......them new batteries are good for big systems too...its the coil ones...forgot the name of them, u know the ones with the 6 cylinders?...anyway, them work good too

They are called optima batteries, i have a yellow top, deep cycle, but trust me, there is nothing better than having a bigger alternator when you plan to do something like that, i f up mine twice,(on my 00 altima with a 110 alt too) even with the optima on the car, and a cap, sometimes is not enough, some of this systems draw somewhere around 150 amps, our alt is only 110 do the math, it might not me a 150 all the time, but if you want the best out of you sytem, dont let it starve for power, give it all it wants

I agree some systems could use a bigger alt. but pushing 150 is quite a bit

Just out of curiousity what are you putting in your car tmbrlnd? ....

Agreed... from EXPERIENCE!

An alternator would definitely come in handy, but if you REALLY need it depends on your current draw, factoring in amps, accessories, current draw during the days as opposed at night with the lights on and what not.

Not in my Maxima, but a previous vehicle, I HAD to buy a new alternator because i blew two of em as my amps were drawing more power than my stock charging system/stock battery could provide for the amps, let alone using your standard car accessories.

If your amps are High Current and/or wired to a low ohm load, no doubt about a High Output Alternator drastically helping your system. They're not cheap though especially if you're buying a one as opposed to having your current one rebuilt, which i wasn't able to do because there wasn't was in the output range i was looking for on my vehicle on that time, which is why i had to make a bracket to mount it.

Here's a link for ya, and some Alternators as well:
http://www.zena.net/htdocs/alternators/AutoSound.shtml

You could always check with a local car stereo shop on suggestions for type and output you need.

You should throw this question around in the car audio section as well. I'm sure you'll get some pretty good ideas/suggestions there too

Good Luck!

some of you asked some questions so here are the answers.

1) the batteries are used only for starting the car. the alternator is used to power the vechile while the engine is running.

2) i am currently running 2 1farad caps.

3) the current setup is an xtant x603 (3 channel amp) driving boston acoustics z6 fronts, and 2 alpine bass shakers. for the subs i am using an xtant x1001 to power 2 12" xtant x'series dvc subs. 2 monster 1 farad caps. Alpine cda-7969 with inputs for my ipod.

4) i am looking at picking up an x604 so that i can drive the z6's in bi-amp mode.
the xtant x603 is 75x2 at 4 ohms. while the x604 is 300x2 at 4 ohms.

5) i want to add the x604 to drive the 6 1/2's and than use the x603 to power the tweeters.

6) i am currently not in need of it but when i go to add th3 x604 there is going to be a huge current draw on the system. and figured before i get it installed i would post something in case i needed it and by than i would have a place to go.
