Mods and mileage
The car just hit 4 k and I filled up today @ $2.89 for 93 octane, avg 24.3 MPG by the odometer and 24.9 via the info screen with city driving so the mods seem to have helped the mileage as they are advertised at 20/28.

Hi Greg,
Regarding your Underdrive pulley. Who installed it? I had my dealer install it. I seem to have a chirping sound coming from the engine on the side of the pulleys. Or could be my imagination and the sound may be the the top of the engine like the cams or rockers. It's definately a chirping sound that like 4 chirps per second at idle. Seems to be more noticeable from the right wheel well though which as you know is just a plastic cover below the engine bay. Anyway, could you do me a favour and check around your right wheel and hear if it's making the same sound and get back to me please.
By the way I have the Unorthodox Racing underdrive pulley part number:
021011002 as per their web-site.
I checked with them and they said 2 things that my dealer is going to check tomorrow: Belts too tight or tension bolts out of alignment.
I could almost swear that the accessory pulley that is located behind the UDP when you are under the hood facing the car seems to not be rotaing straight.
Thanks,
xorbitman

But back on topic...
The info screen mpg thing is useless unless you keep resetting it. Long term it doesn't help because it doesn't know if you're driving city or highway, fast or slow. The only difference that I've seen now is that I'm using a lot more gas, but that's because I'm at high rpm more so I can hear the intake do its thing...

Oh, and I WISH I was paying $2.89 for 93 octane. It just hit $3.25 by my house (CT), and it's even more expensive by work (NY).

I asked my dealer about installing the UD pulley as I was fed up and they told me that unless the pulley was NISMO they would not do it and then they said that even though I had the pulley and belts they would charge $199 to install it and then I hung up laughing. Since the dealer installed yours by all means take it back to them!
I have not reset the info screen but it was only .6 mpg off. I did not need to get gas today but when I saw it for $2.89 I topped off since it will be quite some time if ever I see it that low again.....

We are paying as much as $1.27 for 91 octane...Adjusted for the US $ That works out to $3.91. Although I can get 91 for $1.07/ litre tomorrow. A few big gas companies have sales on every Thursday 91 for the price of 89. That works out to $3.29 US. There are 3.5 litres per every US Gallon. Although theoretically it really doesn't work out that way....it's still a bundle of cash to fill up!
I will have my dealer check the belts tomorrow.

I mght have checked my mileage when I first brought my car. It doesn't matter to me anymore. I just fill it up and go. Gas here for 92 is running between 3.11 and 3.25 as of yesterday. There was a problem with Sheel gas in NJ. They delived water downed gas to alot of stations. They said the problem was at the refinery. Don't they have ppl to check for stuff like this before it goes into the trucks. They said they will pay for all repairs and are drainng out the tanks at the stations. I never use Shell. They also has some type of problem in South Florida last year.

Damn, my screen reads 18.4 now, any idea why it is so low? I do still occaisionally floor it since I've only had it a few weeks and its still new to me, but not too much. Most of my driving is stop and go heavy interestate traffic, so there isn't much of a chance to floor it anyway. I had the dealership do a full inspection and they said that it's in great shape. Guess I could reset it and see what happens. (SL auto)

Aside from listening to it shift through gears as I accelerate, I'm sure I could use the manual shifting to figure it out. I just assumed it was a 4spd, guess I'll have to check.
BTW, sorry for the hijack. This is one of the questions that I would have liked to ask in my own thread, but I don't have enough posts yet. I understand the reasoning, but a newbie like myself really doesn't have anything relevant to contribute to threads aside from asking my own dumb questions.

If you have the manually shifting then you have the 5 spd. The 4 spd shifter looks different, I am pretty sure that the 4 sp does not allow for manual shifting.
No problem with the hijack, this is how we all learn about our cars!

Cool, I guess I just learned something new about my car!
So does 18.4 seem low to you for non-modded 5sp auto SL? I think it read maybe 18.3 when I bought it, guess I should reset it and try manually calculating it on the next tank as well. FWIW, 91 is our top-level premium in Denver, which is what I use.

Hi Guys,
All fixed now. I had bought the accessory belt and then my mechanic decided to change it to the one recommended by UR. A few minor adjustments and now she's good! No more noise...yey!
Maxmale...Maxine is beautiful...where did you get those funky floor mats? and how did you do that engine cover? Nice stuff. I promise to take some pics this week-end. I need to do a bit of cleaning in the engine bay...steel clamp holding my CAI needs some silver Tremclad. Once I'm done I'll set up a site on Car domain.
By the way that's unbelievable about the Shell selling watered-down gas. That's pretty dangerous for an engine. Water does not burn and it's co-eff. of expansion is way different than gas...it can blow and engine to pieces!
