Budget of $500 What mod comes first

Im bored so yahhhh.

Ok well I read many forums and found many things you can add to the 6th gen max. My question is if you had 500 Bills to spend on a stock 6th gen 6spd max what would you buy first.(performance wise)

(A) Cold Air Intake
(B) Regualr Intake without the cai
(C) Exhuast system
(D) Y-Pipe
(E) Strut Bar
(F) Drilled and Slotted Brakes
(G)Pulley

(H) Other(Please List)

By strut bar do you mean the Rear Sway Bar?
The exhaust alone can kill your budget, I bought mine from Ebay and it was $450 shipped, of course right after I bought it the price dropped...
Will you be doing the installs yourself or will you have to budget labor into the $500?
If you do the work a CAI, UD pulley and the RSB should be right at $500.

I would say ECU flush. And if Teq gets his thing going it will be a good price and you will have some cash left for a strut bar.

I disagree with the ECU flash first, unless you never intend to do a CAI, exhaust or Y pipe. I think the ECU reflash should be the last mod so it can take full advantage of the others.

Springs and rear anti-sway bar plus install is about $500. This will change the whole handling characteristic of the car, I assure you.

Or RSB and brakes, if you don't want to springs. Other mods won't improve much by themselves.

It all depends on how many miles you have on your car. Warranty issues on the engine. Do you have a SL or SE?
I would go for FSB and anti-sway bar. Than work it from there.

Agreed, plus if you already have wheels on the car it will only make it look that much better. My Progress RSB and spring setup installed cost me $600 in Colorado.

springs/ rsb/ fstb/ cai/ exhaust, all these are easy to put on. my advice is if your not military, find a friend who is and get him to take you to the hobby shop and put the stuff on your self. probably would cost you 30 bucks to do all the mods i just listed.

or you could rent a spring compresser from an autoparts store. it's more fun when you get your hands dirty and at least you know it is done right.

Well seems every1 here has a diff opinion

So from what I Read screw the y pipe and the cai intake because of the Ecu restrictions and spend some $$$ on the suspension, Kinda wanted the intake but if there are no gains fk it..

Do the struts and shocks if your gonna lower the car, no point in half assing the job just to replace them later on.

no sence in going fast if you can't control it, I say sway bar and springs. this car is plenty fast as is, with control it will feel alot better, and you can take it to higher limits

then do engine mods..

I have CAI and catback, and am really feeling the need for better control. Really itching for springs and swaybar. I think that's a good place to start.

I lost low end power with these two mods, but feel an increase in midrange power. Sometimes I wish I had better control that comes with the suspension mods. Took a ride in VQMAX05's ride and noticed how much a difference dropping and a waybar makes. My package feels incomplete right now and I think will be pretty expensive to get it done...still need y-pipe (waiting for header/y-pipe combo) and ECU mod to start with. Eventually get cams.

So just the springs can be ok, or did you guys replace the struts too?

Where do I get the cattaman springs and the sway bar a website perhaps?

I also think control comes first: RSB, front strut bar, maybe SS brake lines.
Homemade or purchased CAI. Go to MIDAS and get the crimped pipe under the tank replaced with full size tube. Need to get a part time job.

I agree with most RSB and springs. I ran stock struts for over a year and half with no problems. Then after a while you can upgrade the rest of the suspension. A) Changes the whole look of your car. B) RSB makes a huge difference in handling.

You can contact Brian at Cattman by email or call him. I think this is the general email address: catt@cattman.com , phone:520.575.6195
There is also a group deal in this forum.

which RSB is the best? Is that the Cattman everyone is talking about? Is a front sway bar beneficial as well? What springs do you reccomend?

Different mods for different goals:

1, speed
2, handling
3, looks

Break down your goals.

If not, get a pair of fuzzy dice...

For a $500. dollar budget, start with a CAI and UR Pulley.

Than Exhaust, Y-Pipe, and ECU (these 2 need the ECU to achieve true performance potential).
