New Chrome Grill, New Chrome Window Trim, Newly CRACKED Windshield!!!!
UPDATE!!! New Chrome Grill, New Chrome Window Trim, Newly CRACKED Windshield!!!!

I had my car in yesterday for a new OEM grill and chrome window moldings, both covered by Nissan warranty. I was sitting in my car today, not moving and the car not running and I hear a quick little noise and I look where the sound came from and I have a friggin cracked windshield!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Called my service guy, who is really great, and he basically said Nissan will try NOT to cover it. They will say I got hit by a rock- blah, blah, blah. But he is going to put in a courtesy request and I should find out tomorrow if they will cover it. I have 13,600 miles on my Max and I just had the trim changed yesterday and today its cracked. Coincidence??? I think not.
Others here have had this same issue in the past, I thought I dodged the bullet b/c my new trim looked good and the seams looked to factory spacing.
FFFFVVVVVVVVCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!
You should have glass coverage, most people do with their insurance and don't know it. Call them up and they'll probably replace it.
I had a chip in my other car and went to one of those SafeLite places, and they told me the insurance should cover it -- and sure enough they did.

if i remember correctly,... tek-nig said that like 4 or 5 times that it has happened to him when he had gone to the dealership and when they install the chrome window trim the windsheild cracks...

The serivce guy told me the trim just clips in but I guess there is more to it than that, to put enough pressure on the window to get a crack in it. The crack has GROWN about 2 inches since it happened around 4PM today. Maybe by morning it will go all the way across!!! I will be calling my insurance company too, just to be prepared.
Talked to asst service manager today, no word from Nissan yet. Continued till Monday. The asst service manager said he will take care of it one way or another. I can believe him, he fixed my shimmy without help from Nissan, so I'll let him take care of this too. It just pisses me off each time I look at it. When I'm driving down the street I think that everybody notices my broken window and they think, "Hey, nice car, too bad its all jacked up with that broken windshield!!"
I can't even bring myself to wash it this weekend.

BadBlack - If the picture in your post that started this thread is your cracked windshield, it was caused by the chrome trimwork guys. That is a STRESS fracture, pure and simple. It begins at an edge and works its way inward.
Fractures caused by being struck by rocks or other hard objects start with a 'starlike' splay (can be small or large) at the point of impact, then the crack(s) radiate out from there.

Yes, if you look close at the picture at the top you can see the crack and it does start from the edge UNDER the trim piece. I finally told my wife about it yesterday, 2 days after it happened b/c I knew she was going to more angry than I was; and I was right!!!
replaced right roof trim
Hi guys
Just to jump on the band-wagon;
The chrome roof trim on the right side of my 04 max turned yellow over time (41K miles). Took it in today, had it replaced ($132 labor included) only to find a nice huge scratch on my roof next to the trim.
Yeah, I was kinda surprised to find out it was not covered under my extended warranty. Clearly this was some manufacturing defect. This is the third time I had to replace a chrome piece.
They are going to take care of the cratch for me... but what a waste of time and effort, if they only took more care to start with...

It is not a coincidence about the windshield. I replaced my P/S trim and you do have to pry to get the clips out on the A-pillar. After installation, I drove around town to pick up a few things and then my wife took my car for a longer drive down the highway to visit her friends. Before she got half way (less than 10 minutes on the highway), she noticed a crack on the side of the windshield. It was almost 1/3 of the way across before she got to her final destination so....................
If they got someone who wasn't familiar enough with removing the trim piece out then there is a strong likelihood they caused the issue. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined and didn't chip a small piece of the windshiled when I used the screwdriver but I must have put a small scratch into it.
They did it......it's happened to a few forum members as well. Don't budge on the stealership!

Same thing just happend to me dealership denided it and I'm wondering what to do guess I have no other choice than to call Nissan right? It just really ticks me off because the service manager said there was no way that could have happened.
BadBlack Max is very happy today....
Well, I'm back from the shop for my cracked windshield replacement and I am happy as I could be. I picked up the car on Friday, June 9th and I wanted to drive it for a while before I reported back to the Max crowd. First, they replaced the windshield at no cost and they did a fine job. They actually sub that job out to a company called Safelite. I also had the rear subframe replacement completed. They said that there wasn't anything wrong with mine at all but since it was there and covered by warranty they might as well do it. The rear end actually feels and looks like it is sitting a little higher than before. I don't know if that's from the new bushings, etc but I even felt it as I was sitting in the car, I felt I was pushed forward in my seat, which was quickly fixed by leaning the seat back, duh! But I said in passing when I dropped off the car that my right front tire seemed to have a loose caliper or the strut wasn't torqued down enough and I asked if they could take a look at it. It would bang on little bumps, like manhole covers, small cracks in the road and my driveway bump- and I could feel it shake the entire steering column all the way to my hands on the steering wheel. The service manager thought it could be a rubber bushing at the top of the strut, no big deal. I have had the struts replaced once before, with the new upgraded part # 54303-7Y426 and 54302-7Y426 back in August 2005 when I had 4,961 miles on her. Well, when I pick up the car they tell me the strut was bad and they replaced both of them. Cool!! I looked at the strut and its stamped with part number OE12141 and on the paperwork they are listed as 54303-7Y026 and 54302-7Y026. (The 7Y4 is now 7Y0) These are different than the last upgraded ones. My wheels gaps are now 3 inches in the front and 1.5 in the rear, I look like a damn Accord but the ride is freakin awesome. This is how it was supposed to ride when I bought it. I guess with 6 new tires, 4 new rims, 2 new front rotors, 2 sets of struts, 2 alignments, seat recall, glove box realigned, new rear leather seat, new grill, new roof trim and a new rear subframe can really make a difference. I hate the wheel gap but I am too afraid now to go get my Cattman springs b/c I'm afraid I'll break the damn car again. I now have 15,150 miles on her and she rides like a dream, I wish she could be a little lower but I'll wait until all of my warranties have run out and parts need replacing.
And the most important piece to all of this was that I had to pay..... $0.00

That is a bummer.... I had the same thing
happen 2 weeks before I was to get my new 06! Of course this WAS a rock and I was moving.. either way getting a new window was not on my list just before I got rid of it. Hope you have insurance that covers it.
Thanks

POST 6 - sorry.. trying to fill the odd 15 reply rule so I can post my actual question concerning my 06 Maxima.

if i may ask, did your original post mean that i can take my car in to my dealership and they'll put the chrome trim for me? do they charge or is it free? how much? cause i'm trying to find it everywhere for my max and can't find anything that doesnt include the B pillars (only want the border trim chrome)
and though i haven't had something like that happen yet, i have noticed my dealership trying to give me some bs before as with my registration. they [seem to] try to screw you over but it'll be hard with me...make it hard for them!

If the dealership won't help you, just park the car caddy-corner on the service bay and tell everyone that comes in what caca they are doing in there... you'll get something done then. Also, you could see if there is a news whistleblower in your town. Dealerships hate this kind of advertising adn people who are in the car market really pay attention to this kind of press.
Just a thought!
Just a thought!
My last post was for the guy from Maryland who's dealership wouldn't fix their mess-ups.
I am also interested in knowing how you got the trim replaced... just on 04's, or can the 05 get it done also. Kind of scares me with the broken windshields though...
