Brake Job Concerns??New mods

I am having my car on Monday have a complete spring adjustments.
I am having the MAx
ALigned
Wheels rotated
WHeels re-balanced
Brake Rotors Replaced (RTP slotted/drilled, Carbon Pads)
1 more coat of Bronze paint front/rear
NISMO stickers on calipers done.

And to finish it of
Stillen Front chin spoiler.

Now on 2 the question. To do the brakes, is there anything "special" that needs to be done while doing the job, not to mess anything up. I was told the the car must be plugged into the OBD2 port and have the ABS turned off, as not to mess the system up. Is this true? How much better will the slotted/drilled rotors be over stock?

Thanks
VQ

I never heard of the special procedures for brakes. No one on here has done so yet. you can find many threads on comparing blanks to cut rotors.

When I did my brakes lines, pads, rotors, etc. No there was nothing special I had to do. No OBD2 and no ABS turnoff (not even sure how to do that other than disconnecting the battery). Just swap your ****, everything should be fine...

Depends on the pads... IIRC the metal masters require proper bedding in, or they squeak later on. It's a whole 40mph-10mph-40mph-10mph rollercoaster a bunch of times...

As far as ABS/OBDII, I've never heard of that either.

Good to know about the rollercoaster thing.

I also thought that the OBD2 port thing was weird!

I was thinking of getting metal master pads. Is this procedure documented anywhere?

Thanks!

As long as you don't turn the key to accessory (radio) or ignition, you don't need to disconnect the battery or ECU. If you turn the key and someone step on the brake pedal, the pistons will pop out. And you'll have to have the car tow to da steala...

I just installed the wilwood BBK and that was the same procedure listed on mine...... I guess it must be standard procedure.

???? Ever done a brake job? C clamp bro...

Jon, I love my drilled rotors. They do dust for awhile and I can faintly hear the tick-tick of the pads at certain speeds. Nothing special is needed to do brakes...

I have drilled/slotted rotors, zinc treated (no rust). They add a small 'wizzing' sound and feel when you brake. I think they look better than slotted only rotors. Braking power was slightly better. Get Stainless Steel braided brake lines with the brake job if you can (search previous posts or sticky). It adds much more firmness to brake pedal.

NISSAN service manual calls the 'rollercoster' burnishing the brakes.
30mph down to a stop in 3-5 seconds. Drive 1 minute to cool brakes.
Repeat cycle 10 times or more.

No mention in service manual about ODBII connection for any brake work. Stealership scam probably.

Max service manuals are available at:
http://www.phatg20.net/modules.php?n...titleA&show=10 (credit to Ramberg). A must for diy's.

No, but stating that you need to go to the dealer because the piston is out...

You laugh, but I've seen some crazy $hit at the shop. Most manufacturers recommend disconnect battery when working on ABS brakes, so the modules don't get screwed up if some idiots does something stupid.
