04 maxima se Grill Peeling
04 maxima se Grill Peeling
I went to Nissan yesterday. I asked the Service Guy if Nissan would replace My Grill (again) under warranty. He asked for the Mileage, (51k), and said they could not warranty it with that many miles. My question is: Does not the first (Replacement) have a warranty? The car is a Lease, and has been great with the exception of the Grill Peeling.Maybe I should seek out another Nissan Dealer. I must admit, I recently test drove the 2006 Pontiac GTO (400 HP)!!WHOOOA!! Thanks Folks... -ez
There is no warranty on trim once you've exceeded your normal vehicle warranty period unless the dealer offers to change it for you. I doubt another stealership would change it for you but it doesn't hurt to try. Mine was peeling so I removed all the clear coat off the trim, cleaned it, and then recleared it.
And regarding the GTO, the joy of owning such a powerful car would be out-lived by all the headaches that would accompany it (plus it is a domestic model where GM has beat the suppliers to a pulp with cost reductions to the point where the product quality is seriously suspect - lived it first hand for over 7 years).

Had the same thing happen to me...I was washing the car with a high pressure hose and a chip on the grille blew out to a baseball sized spot...which is of course brighter in color then the rest of the grille, exposing the silver underneath. I had like 40,000+ so i just got a trenz bc I knew it was just going to happen again..the finish on the stock grille sucks, they should have just made it plastic bc that coating does not hold.
My grill was peeling in spots. Since I saw it was shiny underneath, I was wonder how it would look with the protective covering completely peeled away. So I brought a can of paint remover and peeled the rest of. The grill now has a chrome look to it. I even like it better than the original grill. Since my car is liquid silver, I feel it doesn't jump out at you unlike a car with a darker color, but than again, it may look even nicer on a darker color..
My grill did the same thing..... just like everyone else I removed the coating but only from the Big "tooth" in the middle and the outside...... I left the little "teeth" and the half circles inbetween the nissan logo coated...... looked awesome for about half a year till water bubbles got behind the coating so today or tomorrow I will be removing the grill and all the coating..... spraypainting the little teeth and the half circles along with the word nissan the color of my interior pieces which are graphite grey kinda close to the coated color and then clearcoating the whole grill with about 3 cans of clear coat..... expect this project to be an all day off and on project..... giving the coats time to cure.....
will post before and after pics here soon.....

My grill stated to peel when I went pass the warranty period (of course). I looked at the chrome look that was exposed and decided to peel it off. I made one dumb mistake and tried to peel it off using my finger nails and an exacto knife. Lets just say the shiny parts scartches very easily and I was bothered but if it were peeled off neatly it would look better to me than the blue crap that is on it. I was going to buy an after market grill and then some idiot bumped my car and bailed me out. The body shop that my car is in has to replace the grill anyway. I asked him to remove that layer and he said ok. I will still be buying a better one eventually. It's not urgent right now though.
on my third "stock" grill now. had teh last one changed at 59700 KM (warranty ended @ 60K). was told by the dealer that Nissan has made some improvements to the grill (plastic coating) but i doubt!!! seeing how the max 2007 now has the altima/sentra grills!

Mine has been peeling pretty bad. I took it into the dealership for an oil change and they swaped it out for a new one.
I'm looking at 3m tape type solutions to stop it from hapening again, but I don't know if anything will work.

I guess I got a lemon.coobie
Mymaxima7 Hey, did the paint thinner make the grille easier to peel off or did it actually take all that plastic stuff away? Just wondering...I have peeled a couple spots but it seems like its gonna take a year to get it all off.
