Stealership Tech (Rant Warning)

So I bring my max in for a strut replacement yesterday, covered by warranty...

I pick it up last night, and all of a sudden its pulling left at all speeds.

Needless to say, I went back, and they scheduled for me to come back in this morning.

Show up, the tech takes it out for a test drive...
Come back, puts is up on a lift, swaps my two front tires and brings it back around. "here you go!"

I get in... notice the steering wheel is off center (pointing left) and I go out for a drive. No sooner do I pull out, vehicle keeps pulling left. I pull a u-bie and go right back. I confront him and ask him why he did not drive it after "fixing" the problem. He says its not a big deal, and to deal. "excuse me?" I'm the f'n customer here, fix my ride.

Obviously at this point, the service manager comes out. "Sir, what seems to be the problem" I describe, he says, lets go for a ride.

He pulls out, hits the gas, goes half a block and goes "oh yeah, thats not right" Pulls back around goes up to the guy "What makes you think you can return a vehicle like that to a customer? Did you not road check it first? Put it up on the rack, align it, balance it, fix the problem. If you have a problem with that... pack up your tools and leave! And you return those keys to me when you are done, and I personally with road test it and I will let you know if you fixed it!

and I thought I was pissed? wow!

Pisses me off that this friggin kid returned my car like that, and this his attitude was so lax... Why can't people do their job right. How hard is it really?

I just hope it gets righted. [/rant]

Wow, that tech needs to find a new line of work if you ask me.
Did they get everything straightened out?

Well Joe, I hope it's done right there man! I would be concerned with him messing up something else on the car out of retaliation. Good luck and let us know how your ride is doing.

You seem to be missing some rather important info on that post... namely the name of the place!

Well to be fair, the SA did take care of it in no uncertain terms. Maybe so long as the same tech doesn't work on your car it would be alright.

Same crap here as well....they replaced the rear subframe and did a 4 wheel alignment (so they said). I jumped in the car, the steering wheel was listing about 30 degrees off center, and the car pulled to the left.

Called them up when I picked my wife up and let them have it. Took it back in the next day and somehow the wheel straightened itself and the car drove straight.....and they wanted to charge me for 1/2 of an alignment.

Fixed yes, but Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold. Depending how upset the young tech is, he could pull a stunt on your car at the next visit. Since you have many dealership to choose within a 10 mile radius, I would not go back if he is still working there.

Don't you love it also when your car has acted up continuously until it gets to the dealership. Then its, "we took it out for a ride but we can't find anything." Never fails in my case.

I found out that the tranny oil needs to be changed at about 30K miles and that it costs $110 to change that oil! Holy freaking cr@P Batman. What kind of oil is this? That was my third visit for the same problem....squeek coming from behind the driver inside. I found the squeek! It turn out to be the center console which needed tightening to the car floor. So since I was nearly due for the oil change I asked them to do that then they sprang this Auto tranny oil thing on me. Good thing I changed it though. It was dark brown! How could that be? I never race the car...hardly winter driven and try to minimize the aircon. Strange!
Needless to say I asked them if there was any metal in the oil and the answer was no...phew! Good to change the tranny oil on time but $110 ? ooof!

I hate dealerships, I went to the dealer to ask about the exhaust rattle and the service writer replies with their is no exhaust rattle but their is an exhaust bracket that makes a noise, so when he asked me when I would like to set the appointment I told him no thanks.

I saw the Tranny Oil it was a very dark brown almost black and we looked at it closely and there was no silvery stuff in there. ( No metal ) Phew! I must admit though she is riding really nice now that the noises are all gone! Almost like a stealth bomber! LOL!

Tranny Oil

Don't wait any longer man. You could be voiding your tranny warranty. Get it done before it's too late!

My rant with my stealership is that when I brought it in for the warranty work on the front right strut and bearing mount ( again ). The new service rep. recommended that I do a Maintenance 3 which included a bunch of stuff like cleaning the brakes and rotating the tires which I had already done about a month ago! I did not want to pay for this or waste my techs time on stuff that was just done. I did however want to have the tranny oil taken care of. Instead, this guy was insisting that I needed to pay all this extra to stay on "track". On top of that, this guy is not a technician and he has never done a job like this before! He was just out for more money! I asked him to check out my engine bay and proceeded to show him how clean my car is inside and out and he says; "Oh you should see my engine bay, It's ten times cleaner than yours!". At that point I almost lost it. I did not say anymore. I lowered the hood...which he did not even know how to pop and walked away and told him to get the tranny oil done, the regular oil change and lube and to leave it at that, but I was fuming inside!

I know that but I find it disrespectful that the service writer acts as if the problem is not even related, exhaust noise, exhaust bracket, same thing.

I find it hard to believe anything a service writer says, keep in mind all they do is ask you how many miles you have on your car and then read off the dealer recommended padded service, many of those pricey services are just general inspections no actual work is performed but the customer still pays.

Plus many dealers have non warranty work quotas, you try pushing 100k a month in service, I knew several service writers who quit at a Nissan dealer cause all they where doing was having work performed on cars that did not need it, I avoid that place.

that's one reason why I do everything myself and ask that before anything is done to my car that I be there.... if they say no then say ok I will take it somewhere else to get the work done.... if you don't want to watch them do it then get to know everyone and do the work...... I am having them install my steel braided brake lines to keep them responsible for drivetrane stuff.... I don't want to void anything just yet..... seeing that there are this many problems so far I will hold my warrenty as long as possible without voiding it..... they will even install a turbo setup after testing it and keep the warrenty..... this dealership is awesome out here.... they have specialist who actually know their stuff and help out alot..... I had some problems with installing my head unit and they helped me fix it free of charge.... I ordered the whole shop pizza and from that point on everyone knew me and I have had only good experiences there..... point is get to know your service department reps..... these guys do the same thing day in and day out not caring who's car it is unless they know the person.... then sometimes you get quality work done..... I know it shouldn't be that way but it's life and people cut corners to get the job done unless it's somewhat important to them....
