"Creaking" noise when brakeing
"Creaking" noise when brakeing
I have this sound I can only describe as a creak, kind of like slowly shutting a door with hinges that need to be oiled. It is low in pitch, it isnt a squeel. It happens only under brakeing, and either only occurs, or only can be heard when the car is slowing to a stop under 10 Mph. I first noticed it at drive through ATMs when the sound would echo off the wall while I had my window down. I have to have the window down to really hear it, but our cars are pretty isolated so it is audible very clearly when Im in a lot with the window down and listen for it. All I know is it seem sto be coming from the driver rear, and it must be the caliper...but I dont know anything about disassembling it or anything, or if this is even a big deal. I had the rear pads changed about 5k miles ago though, and never noticed it prior to that. Is there something that might be loose that I can tighten if I take off the wheel (to avoid a shop rate at the dealer). I dont think id pay to stop it, but if anyone can think of something simple it may be let me know, thanks.
I am hearing the same thing except mine is when I am accelerating from a stop, it sounds like something in the front suspension needs lubed but I can't find any fittings. The suspension is stock with the exception of a bigger RSB.
I grabbed the caliper and noticed that there is definate movement of the center part of the caliper thats holding the pad if I shake it slightly...the other side wont budge. Its gott be that...
Brake guys-
Is there something that can be tightened to stop the play in the caliper?

the 2 bolts that hold it?
I am also having the same issue with the front left, i wanna say taht its my rotors or something else; and it just might be what u are describing, so tomorrow i am going to check that out myself! and by the "caliper shook," do u mean there was a lot of play or just a little? thanks

oooo I see, do you by chance also get a creak from the area of your steering wheel while going over bumps and turning at <5 mph? Because i just started noticing it a few days ago and its like
is that s***

No nothing from the steering wheel....just this minor annoyance when i have my windows down and im rolling to a stop...Sounds like a door with rusty hinges being closed verry verry slowly. I have brake parts cleaner and i sprayed the caliper, but it still happens. This weekend im going to jack it up and take off the wheel.
Im just want everyones idea on what i could look for or adjust or tighten (if anything) This isnt serious enough to go to the dealer for me...I mean there are new pads back there and all the rotors must be flat bc i dont get any vibration from the pedal under braking. Also I noticed it only seems to happen when i brake from going forward, it dosent happen in reverse.

I've been having the squeak for some time now and I think it is my brakes because I get a violent shimmy when i'm braking decently hard from highway speeds.
And does anyone have any idea what the squeaking from the steering column area may be?
