RPMs...
RPMs...
Guys,
I hope I'm dreaming here, but, for some reason I'm thinking my car is reving too high when cruising. If I remember correctly, when I use to drive at a normal 55 - 65 mph, my rpms would be under 2. However, here recently, it seems that during normal driving,(55 - 65 mph), my rpms are above 2.
Any thoughts on why this might be happening? I noticed this because I am filling up more often.
Thanks!!!

Your not dreaming, you have lost your mind. I'm at 2200rpm at about 60mph/100kmh.

what is an "rmps"???
Rotations Per Minutes???
well my RPM are at 2500 at 70mph. 2000 RPM is close to 60. now there will be a slight RPM difference between coasting at those speeds w/o pressing the pedal and maintaining those speed by using the gas.

In my 04 with the 6-speed manual in 6th gear, I get the following:
55 MPH = 2,000 RPM
82 MPH = 3,000 RPM
These are the two that I remember off the top of my head. Midway between these two reading would be 2.5 K RPM and that would occur at about 68 MPH.
You will have slightly different results with an auto-trannie when the engine is pulling (not coasting -- per Nismo above). However, your results will not be greatly different from mine and certainly not below 2 K RPM when going over 60 MPH.
My previous car (98 Olds Intrigue with 3.8 L engine) would do what you describe: at about 2 K RPM the Olds was doing about 66 MPH. This slower engine speed was why this car would normally get between 30 and 32 mpg on the interstate, while my Max gets between 28 and 30 mph on the same drives. But my Max does not struggle in top gear when I drive to Denver on
I 25 over Monument Hill because of its lower ratio gearing.
