In-cabin air filter

Anyone know where to get the in-cabin air filter for a better price than the 30 bucks the dealer wants?? I thought there was a thread on this but I can't find it anywhere.

I though $30.00 is ok for an OEM micro filter. Hmm, you said someone sells it cheaper that that?

Considering the cost of a filter for a home central air unit, at like 3 to 7 bucks, and its like 10 times the size of that little filter? Then again, the service tech did say that the oem filter should last 1 year or 15,000 miles. But I still think someone on here found them alot cheaper.

The manual as well as replacement instruction sheet enclosed with the filter state that the filter should be changed every 12 months or 15K miles. I think it all depends on the environment you live in. If you live in a dry, dusty state the dust will acumulate quicker then in other places.

From my experience in NY from now on I am going to change it every 10-12K miles. I was kind of waiting on the change because didn't know how to. I found the instructions here and it is easy as hell. I don't understand why the dealer charges 99 bucks to change it. It takes whole 3 minutes.

I just did my first swap at 21months/34K miles and let me tell you the filter was filled. I am not talking dirty, I mean FILLED. It was filled with crap all the way to the top of the fins. Past couple of weeks I was wondering why my A/C is not doing its job like it used to. Changed the filter and now its "brick" in the car.

Hope it helps.

If you're trying to save some money you can always take out the filter and blow out the dust with an air hose. Spray the air from the clean side to the outside so you drive the dust out of the filter not in.

I got mine at advanced auto parts. It's a Purolator and I got the part number from the Purolator website and took it into the store and they ordered it. The part number is not in their books. It's about 12 bucks.

There was a thread a while back about this. I got mine from drivewire.com too, but it was about $10-$11 each. I guess the price went up a little. It looks almost like OEM Nissan with out the plastic spine and logo. Works great!

So I see this Purolator part on the Advanced Auto parts website and I go into the store because it says they have it and they can't even find the part number or any reference to it in their system. I guess I'll just have to order it through their website or maybe this other website.

I live a few miles from where drivewire.com setup their shop. Try their Nippon Denso oil-filter, it's cheaper than the OEM nissan. It's the good old "discontinued" version. And the filter looks/feels better quality than the current OEM. It's also good as filler to get enough $$$ for free S/H. By the way, I ordered the oil-filter for '95-'99Max to make sure I can get the old filter.

Well, I decided to order the Purolator cabin filter online from Advanced ($12) because both stores around me didn't show it on their computer when I called them up. When I ordered it online it gives me the option of picking it up at the store so I decided to do it since it saved ~$6 on shipping and then it says I can go pick it up in 1 hour. So I figure I'll go see if they really had it in stock and sure enough, there it was right on the shelf. Kinda strange that the national computer is more accurate than the one right there in the store.

I'll do the install tomorrow.

Installed this morning. Took all of 4 minutes. Only slightly confusing thing was which way the air flow goes because the new filter had a "Air Flow" arrow and the old Nissan OEM didn't. I figured the air flows from the dirty (up side) down towards the fan (bottom side) and then through the car vents. Super easy job for anyone.

I ordered mine from drivewire just now, $18 with shipping. Thanks for the site, id be pissed if I had spent $30+shipping at courtesy parts. I hope there will be some noticeable difference in smells getting in the cabin and maybe stronger AC/Heat. Im not taking out the old one till the new one gets here, it will be interesting to see how dirty it is after 3 years and 60,000 miles.

I think you are in for a little shock. I just changed mine after 2 years and 34K miles and it was filled with crap. Its wasn't dirty it was FILLED!. I had stuff piled between the ridges all the way to the top. My A/C was barely breathin. I think I've mentioned this before; from now on every year or every 12k miles. $12 per filter just made it easy on the wallet.

GREAT FINDS GUYS!!!

Ill be in for shock if i can get the damn glovebox pins out. I havent got the filteryet but I looked to see how the door comes off and those plastic pins don't move out. They hinge up and down, but when it comes to pulling them towards the middle of the glovebox per the manual they are staying it seems. I didnt want to break the plastic so I didnt try with all my force, is it supposed to be that hard or am I missing something? I thought all you have to do is push the plastic tabs together, right?

Dont worry, I couldnt get the damn cover off the air fliter. The one that has the two tabs that say push. Well I pushed and they wouldnt moved. Ended up using pliers to pull it out.

^^^^^ Same here! Push my A$$! Just put it in now. Anyone notice that you gotta put the filter from drivewire in so that the Nissan label is upside down to match up with the factory one? Vent direction wise?

I didnt even look at which way the filter/grooves went. I just put in with the label right side up. Maybe I'll go back and take a look.

BTW - Be careful not to break the little bungee cable like I did. Luckily I'm still under warrenty and got the part ordered today. Me and my bionic hand.

I was very careful of that bungee cable... I took everything out of the glove box as to not put any extra weight on that cable while the box was hanging there. If you do get a chance to check it.... make sure you push those tabs for the filter door! YEAH RIGHT!

Chenged mine last night...its more like a 10-15 min job, getting the door to the filter on and off is even more of a ***** than getting the glovebox out. They sure don't make it easy, maybe thats how they are able to scam people at dealerships for $100 to replace this.

THe old one was black after 60,000...Ill change it again in 30,000mi. Can't really tell the difference, perhaps next time im behind a car buring oil or have the air or heat on in extreme temps i'll notice something.

That filter door was kind of tough mainly because it says push instead of pull, but I used a small flathead screw driver to pry the tab forward and it came off pretty easy that way. Mine wasn't too bad after 45k miles but I suspect that the previous owner changed it because he seemed to have done a lot of the maintenance per the book. I think I can tell a difference but it is probably the placebo effect.

Do you remeber which way the vents were facing when you pulled out the old one?

I remember how it was when I took the OEM out...Just make sure the outermost fins of the filter (left and right) are facing up on their last pleat, thats how it was in. Like this: VVVVVVVVV, not MMMMMMM Does that make sense? The print on the one side of the filter was facing right side up and facing the filter door, so thats how I put the new one in.
The one from drivewire is exactly the same as the OEM filter.

The OEM filter that was in my car had the writing right-side up, but the new, non-OEM filter had an arrow for air-flow and the writing was upside down when installed. Kinda wierd installing that way, but....

Just checked mine after 3.5 years... Pretty much still white. There was some bigger debris like grass, leaves, ect. But still looks clean. I called my service guy at nissan and he said like 50$ to remove the glove and then the filter cost. Uhh, no. Anybody have a part # for the one at autozone? Anyone sneak in a scent block? I wonder if K&N makes a filter for this?
