HELP - Electrical Problem

I have an 04 SE auto with 77K on it. It has run great up until last night and I wanted to see if anyone else has had similar problems.

I was driving along (over a 40 min drive) on the highway, I get off the exit and I hit the gas and nothing. The car is still running but the gas is doing nothing. I put it in park and rev the engine and it increases in revs just like normal.

I then turn it off and try to start it back up and it wont start. I jumped the car and got it started, but the same problem, it wont move over the the speed of just letting off the brake.

HELP please!

How's the voltage on the battery? Should be above 12.3-12.6+ with key off. Should be 13V minimum with engine running, 14.2-14.6v according to service manual. If generator not charging, check the fuses.

same thing that happened when my battery died car would start with a jump but when i gave it throttle it would die, it got so bad that cutting the lights on would pull the motor down enough to kill it.

With 77 K miles on her plus the heat of Baltimore summers, you obviously need a new battery. That should fix your problem. Make certain that the battery store checks your charging system when they install the new battery -- all good ones will.

It is a little surprising that the first symptom was what you experienced driving rather than an inability to get her started after the Max had been parked for a while.

I thought it was really wierd that my first symptom was while driving too. turns out the Alternator was completely shot and took down the battery with it. That seems pretty early for an alternator to go. What do you guys think?
