04 tranny problem?

Sometimes when I am in traffic and I slightly let go of gas the rpms drop from whatever to below 500 for a second and I can feel this thud in the tranny. Has anyone else experienced that, or do you guys think its a serious problem?

I havenot noticed the RPM changes, but I have the same symptoms with my '04SE/5spd when slowing down in traffic. I only guess the trans is dowshifting too early. I'm not sure it bothers me that much. Downshifting early can mean it can jump faster when the traffic let up. I also have a weird problem: after I have stopped at the lights for a few seconds, I feel the very light shift (feel like someone just read-ended me very lightly). I can only guess the trans just downshifted to 1st ???? And the the other day, I felt it did that twice (1st time) ??

Its like it hits a lower gear and I feel the hit in the chasis and it goes to the gear it is supposed to. No hard acceleration or anything. It just feels like it slams for now reason.

i have started to feel the car kind of pulsating a little bit......not brake shimmy, but it feels like it jumps forward a little bit, even when my foot is pressing consistantly on the brake pedal

I heard softy cars (like Toyota, Lexus...) have the trans programmed so it stays in 2nd gear when you cruise to a stop. It's so you can feel the smoothness and avoid the torque steer when you get going again.
So I don't know if the Max would stay in 2nd gear even after you've stopped completely for a few seconds. Then it changes to 1st gear. It surely feels like that. But the other day it felt it twice ???
