8hrs and a yelling wife

So I spent all day Saturday putting in my entire suspension in the parking lot with a set of wrenches. It took nearly 8 hours with a few breaks here and there. After I finished I couldn't help but wonder how much easier this would have been with impact tools and a powered spring compressor. Just compressing the OE spring, decompressing it, compressing the progress spring, and decompressing it took forever. If anyone else has ever used manual spring compressors with a wrench I feel sorry for you. Any way the finished product was worth it. Much better control and very little compromise in ride cushion. Any one else tackle this without any power tools in a parking lot? Just interested in how long it took.

I hear you on the yelling wife part!

I was lucky enough to had a buddy who worked at an auto shop at the time so I had the oppurtunity to use their lift, powered spring compressor and air tools for my coilover install.

I hate spring compressors now

It's not hard, just time consuming and... ever see one snap?

The old fashion way, Basically it's a long nut with two hooks on it. Wind the hooks till they touch the spring and start cranking. It takes ALOT of revolutions to compress. On top of that you need to do both sides equally. That means a few rotations, switch sides, a few more, switch sides. Any Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts should have them for rent. You could buy them but I think that's a waste(How often do you plan on changing springs).

It definitely would have been nice to have a friend around to help out.

I feel your pain. Got my S-techs and tokicos for X-mas and was out in the driveway in December having "fun".
Was well worth it when done, and after recovering from my cold.

Yeah, it's all good fun. And the result is worth it.

Also, anyone ever consider an ELECTRIC impact wrench? May not be as powerful as air, but if you get a good one it could help with a few stubborn bolts and certainly compressing those springs faster.

You know what's funny(at least I think so), I can program systems, set up a LAN, and edit registry keys; but for the life of me I don't know how to post a pic online. Pretty weird huh?

And forgive my ignorance but what is "QP"

Quarter Panel. Sidetracked conversation, sorry.

Host the pic online, get it's url, and put it inside some img tags in the post.

Still better than hand tools. Depending on how powerful the air compressor/or size of the tank is, some aren't as good as electric.
