07 Owners: Bose radio problem

I don't know if this affects all Bose systems, or only the 07 version.

I am getting a constant high pitched hiss coming from all of the speakers. It is a constant volume and usually cant be heard against louder music. It is most easily heard at low volumes or when listening to talk radio.

It also seems to be from any input (radio, cd, aux). It's very easy to hear it when going from volume level 1 down to mute and back to 1. The tone controls also have no effect on it.

Does anyone else's do this?

Thanks.

Sounds like the noise I had in my 04. My noise only came from the two right front speakers in any input. Dealer replaced radio unit but no luck. Finally had them replace the amplifier from something I read on the org. They don't like doing that cuz Bose thinks it stuff is bulletproof. It's been over a month and no noise. Sweet

No, it's definitely not alternator noise since it does it with the engine off. Like I said, it goes away when you lower the volume to MUTE, and it also seems to disappear when you change stations (the time between switching presets). That would lead me to believe that the radio is causing the hiss, not the amp....but who knows.....

Anyone else?

Havn't noticed any noise in mine... I will definitely check tonight after work.

You are correct that your symptoms indicate that the noise is being generated in the HU.

I haven't noticed it either. Then again, I can't hear a lot in the high pictch frequecy bands. So it may be there and I will never hear it. I'll see if my wife hears anything though.

Anybody else have a chance to check this out? Thanks.

I saw this thread this morning and double-checked while out at lunch. In a quiet location with little or no ambient noise around, I listened carefully - putting the radio on a talk station and turning the volume down to 1 and then zero (mute), 1 - zero - 1 - zero.

I heard no hiss or noise in the background. I have the '07 Max with the Bose 6 CD changer, monochrome display:

Perhaps if you have the Navi it might be interfering with the sound ? ?

Take it in and demand a fix! It must be warranty work, and you didn't pay good money for less than perfection!

He's right... mine's quiet. Either the NAV radios are naturally noisier or you've got an individual problem. Unfortunately, its something to bîtch about either way.

Don't have the NAV radio...so, yeah, I'll be stopping by tomorrow to report that, since I'm sure it'll take forever to get the part in. I also have the display piece above the radio on order since it had a little dent and a scratch on it when I received the car. That way they can knock it all out at once.

Nissan must have something against me, the radio in my Titan was a peice of crap too.

Its not just you...

I don't know for sure about the 6 & 6.5g radios, but all the previous Bose HUs have been POS Clarion stuff. My '95 & '96 radios both had dead displays and bad CD transports. Fixed them numerous times myself then finally replaced them with a '99 Infiniti and a '00 Pathfinder HUs (same as '97-'99 Max HU's) off of eBay with mixed results. The one from the '00 Pathfinder is still working fine in my son's '96. The '99 Infiniti unit skipped also. The single disc Bose in my '00 Max was only replaced under warranty once (skipping CD), but the '03 changer was replaced 3 times (skipping changer and left channel cutting out), and the left channel was intermittent again when I turned it for the '07.

Until the TPMS valve stem broke on this one, Bose HUs were the ONLY non-routine service work ANY of my six Maximas have EVER needed. Its definitely a weak point for Nissan - and a hard one to swallow considering what they charge for the Bose option. I hope your case is not an indicator that things have not changed.

Yeah, the Titan was a piece of junk Clarion too.....

Stopped by the stealer this morning. The first ******* service advisor gave me some crap about having to leave the car all day so they could have a "technician" look at it. I explained that I couldn't leave the car all day for a radio problem. He then proceed to tell me that they work on their schedule, not on mine, so come back when I could leave it.

I asked for the manager, I explained the problem (and what the first ******* said to me), he looked at it, and said "Call me next week and I'll give you a status on ordering a new radio, and we'll get it changed out".

I don't understand customer service sometimes. He'd rather me wait all day to tell me it's the radio and then have me come back because they have to order it, then just to do it right then and have me on my way. I could understand if it was a major issue, but it's a radio that appparently everyone knows is a piece of crap.

The funny thing is, they have a great sales and finance staff, but the service has sucked for the 3 years I've been going there.

I don't know if this makes a difference but I have an 07' with the NAV option and it does not appear to have any hissing noise. Is you radio with or without NAV?

In any case I don't think that after what you spend on a new Maxima that you should have to put up with a bad radio. Tell to the dealer to fix it. BTW does the state where you bought the car have a lemon law? In MA the dealer has three trys to fix it before he eats it.

Well they replaced the radio today, and it is still hissing. They are going to order an amplifier now. Hope that does it. I'd hate to think this is a design problem.
