Sirius SAT Install

I want to use the SAT option of the stock radio and I have an existing Sirius account. I contacted the dealer and told me it will cost about $300 to install the OEM sirius tuner.
Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative or place where i can purchase a maxima sirius tuner for the stock radio?
Thanks

I had a previous subscription in my non-Bose 2006 Altima. I bought the Maxima with the Bose/pre-wire. I hated to spend the $300 out the door, but it is a clean install, no extra head-unit needed, and it was professionally done in about an hour. The hardware alone was around $250 so $300 out the door including tax seemed worth it to me.

A few years ago, I would have done it myself, but those "hanging out in the trunk" days are over for me.

Good luck! I couldnt go a day without Sirius!

Yes it was $300 out the door for parts, labor, and tax. And, as someone pointed out, for some reason, the cost of the 2006 model dropped. Not sure why, but I was happy to hear it as I just picked up my '06 about two weeks ago.

Good luck

I got my XM unit from Grubbs and it was a little over 200 bucks. The sirius units were the same price.

Yeah.... but you still need the antenna! So, you are looking at an extra $40 no matter if you are looking at Sirius or Commercial (I mean XM

and your point is what? The link I gave is one of the cheapest prices you will find for the unit and antenna.

I had Sirius in my truck before trading it in. I decided to just have the dealer install the Sirius into my 07 Max. All I had to do was call Sirius and have them change receiver codes on my account. Having installed the Sirius in my truck myself, this was worth the $300 install if you ask me.

I went to the dealership where I bought my 2004 Max (West Hills Nissan, Pittsburgh) and they said that satellite radio is not available for my car-at least not the factory option, even though my dash has the SAT button. Any advice?

is probably not pre-wired for the oem unit.

I put the aftermarket Sportster tuner in my wife's car. It has it's pluses and minuses. I suppose they would be cost, features, portability and performance are the pluses. And the minuses are easily stolen, had to be tuned to a radio station and that causes static noise until it boots up, volume doesn't match other radio settings as well, and no steering wheel control to flip through the presets.

If it was a better price (got the Sportster for $50 with antenna and home dock kit) I would have done the factory kit on her car.

thanks to tlrmax, who gave me a great deal on his OEM sirius tuner, I am now truly enjoying my maxima experience a notch up. It was so easy to install in less than 15 minutes.

Hey I am new to the forum and just purchased a Black 2005 Maxima with navigation and all the other goodies but for some reason they didn't get sat radio. I see that caldeputy and kamdigital both seem to have solved the delema in which i have how much did it cost you guys i see other people that are saying 500 and up that just seems a little excessive for it. I also see someone that says theirs wasn't pre wired how do i know if it is prewired?

Thanks

tlrmax gave me a good deal on a used sirius OEM tuner which i think he had on a different nissan vehicle. Fortunately the tuner was compatible with our MAX. Brand new would run you almost $300 plus labor $65 in my part of CA. I don't know about other year model max, but my 05' max was already prewired which pluged easily to the tuner and viola....satellite radio heaven.

I hate the fact that i could go out and buy a head unit that has sat already for 200 bucks but it will cost me 300 something to get it in my car without messing up the finished look. I guess i am just going to have to just shell out 300 bucks

if you look at it, you will spend more money purchasing an aftermarket head unit that is sirius ready because you will have to buy the metra adapter plus you don't get the clean OEM look. JMO.

I wanted to move my existing XM account over to the max, but my unit doesn't have the SAT button...it isn't pre-wired for XM. Alas, I was forced to slap my skyfi unit into the max. It looked clean on my old car, as it fit directly in the cubby hole, but I'm not too satisfied with it propping on the dash of my max.

I'm thinking of putting a touchscreen nav/radio/sat system instead. I'm talking to a guy about trying to fit an in-dash double-din kit in where the LED screen sits. Don't know if its do-able.

click on the link I posted above for grubbs. You need the tuner box and the antenna. you can get the unit and install it yourself. it is a plug and play operation if your car is prewired. Since your car is an 05, it definately already is.

I read the directions on the grubbs website and it seems more than 15 minutes of work done right. i am just trying to make a decision if I should do it my self or not. BTW, I have an "07". Is the antenna prewired as well. I just got the car yesterday and my head is a little cloudy and I havn't had any time to go and look.

While the instructions make it look complicated, they just detail every single small thing the dealer should be doing. I have seen someone do it and it really is a fairly simple install procedure.

'04 PreWire

How can i tell if my 04 is prewired? I have the sat button the HU but without ripping out the radio is there a way to tell?

One more thing I am confused about. My Bose head unit does not have an SAT Button. Only aux. Does this mean I do not have the ability for SAT? IE prewired? If so, I am going to be upset as the dealer told me it was prewired.

The easiest way to tell is to remove your trunk trim where the install would be and lookk for the plug. OR Call your local dealership and give them your vin and they will be able to let you know. Maximas somewhere in the 2004 year started to pre-wire and every year after that, so if you have an 05-06 you should be fine.
If you decide to remove your trunk trim you will see and understand just how simple the install is. It is funny that I decided to read the forum tonight because I just installed my Sirius today.
I went to the dealership and they gave me price of a little over $500 parts and labor. He tried to scare me with the idea of cutting the car and routing the wire but you do not need to do all that. Not to mention that after checking grubbsperformance.com seems to have the best deal, but I found mine on ebay for $125. The seller was under the impression that it would only fit his Murano but it fits most Nissan models. So just dont search ebay for maxima sirius but how I found mine nissan sirius. I believe there was one for a titan also but could be gone now.

As for the install it is easy as hell. The hardest part is popping out the damn clips that hold the trim piece up on the deck. I am a big guy (300lbs 6'3") and I managed to fitin the trunk by dropping the rear seats and laying that way into the trunk.
I also did not worry about mounting the antenna on the roof but simply put it by the rear speaker with some velcro and tucked the wires. No cutting no ugly non-factory look and no penetration from outside to inside.
If you have the pre-wire dont cheat yourself anymore and get the sirius hook-up. It is so easy and if you look for deals it will be a cheap and awesome upgrade.

No it is mounted on my rear deck inside the car next to the speaker grill and the rear window. That place that is awfully difficult to clen. The antenna will actually work just sittng on your front seat. I bought my system off ebay and before I went through the trouble of hooking everything up properly I just quicly plugged everything in and tested the "sat" button my non-bose stero. When I went to check for the radio to recognize the unit, I realized that I had the antenna still in my hand and then threw it on the front sit and started playing.

You are pre-wired and once you hook up the sat receiver and use your radio button for fm, am, then sat will come up when it is in use.

No, not all 6th gens are pre wired. Early build 2004's arent. There is a certain vin number range that they started wiring them. If you open your drivers door, there will be a sticker on the door jamb saying if its pre wired for sat or not.

That is what I was saying in the first thread about somewhere in the 2004 year they started pre-wiring. I did not know that you could tell by looking on the door because that seems alot easier than calling the dealership with the long vin.

My car is a 2007 and there is no sticker in the jamb. I am told by the dealer though that it is prewired. If youhave the Bose System then its supposedly definitely prewired at least thats what I am told.
