Why are there two muffler tips?

Why does the 6th gen mufflers have two exhaust tips while most other
cars have one? Are the two tips from the same opening or the design
is similar to the 5th gen where one would only open up at a higher load?

They are "HIGH CAPACITY" mufflers. I think they do have valves inside like 5th gens. I replaced all stock piping, resonator, and added y-pipe; and I notice that above 3k RPM is quiter than at lower RPM. And quad tip is badazz...

Could you give me more details on the piping size ? and also maybe a Sound Clip ? Does it give that Altima SE-R groar ?

Basically this is correct. It is one of the few indications on the outside of a 6th Gen that you should be careful before you mess with this 4-door car. These 2 pipes indicate that the breathing of the engine should be better than in a 4-door Accord that only has a single pipe.

These two pipes also have the advantage of very slightly reducing the back pressure on the whole exhaust system.

Never heard SE-R groan, so I couldn't tell you. I went with stock size pipe since I didn't want bigger pipes from Y-pipe to mufflers. If I'd plan to change the mufflers, I would have gone a little bigger. I don't have sound clip, besides, above 3k, all you'll hear is the engine/intake sound. If someone want to host the clip, I'll record it.

Dont want to burst your bubble about Quad Tip exhaust but in reallity, unless you have a dual pipe from the collectors system... it basically sucks and is only for esthetics.

http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/...revenge_nerds/

So if you have on big pipe out of both collectors and then run to one outlets. You can get some serious performance.

Check out a true dual exhaust setup and its gains.

Y, the guy at nissanclub did that to his ALTIMA. A_L_T_I_M_A is smaller then M!A!X!I!M!A! more then enough room, but its $900 to get peak performance, hmm or Cattman for $750.....

Damn exhaust parts are expensive.

Those with 6MT won't have any problems with the true dual setup, 5AT will.

Really, do we have any side by side pics to compare the underbody?

I didn't mean it's not physically possible. I meant the tranny won't shift properly in the auto mode because of the lack of any back pressure. It will upshift too early. You can get the same effect by going with 3" piping.

Of course You will need to make the C-pipe longer but it would end up almost the same product in the end.
