Roof rust and warranty coverage *help*

Hello all..
I have an 04 max w/ 74,000 miles on it. The other day a friend of mine noticed the paint was bubbling up around the Sky View, so I took it to the dealship to see about warranty service. The dealer told me the car is out of warranty and that the rust warranty only covers panels that have rusted all the way through. So the dealer called the Nissan regional rep to see if they would cover it and the answer was no. To complicate things, my Sky View was replaced under a TSB at the same dealership, so i questioned if they may have possibly caused the rust by nicking the car during installation. The Service Manager looked at it and says that there is no evidence of that. The olnly rust on the vehicle is around the sky view. So my question is, what do I do now?? A 2 year old, $30,000 car should not rust!! Any ideas??

kosd, I had the same exact problem with my car, the skyview was replaced soon after I noticed rust around the edges, took it back to Nissan who advised me that they sent the car out to a local glass replacement company for the original skyview replacement, I had small "tool" marks that had been touched up, (check yours very closely) I keep on them hard, they pulled the skyview, painted the entire roof and replaced the skyview, and the glass replacement company had to eat the bill. I know another guy here in town same problem a different glass company would not stand behind their work, and the other Nissan dealer here in town picked up the bill. Stay on these guys I promise you it is because of the skyview replacement that you are having this problem.

*Update* Well, I talked to the service manager at my dealershipand again got some more info. Apparently the work was subletted to a local glass company. However, they still won't fix it because the repair was done more than 12,000 miles/1 year ago. All he would tell me is it is out of warranty so they will not repair it. He wouldn't even give me the regional reps number so that I could speak w/ him. Needless to say I;m disappointed. Overall, Nissan service has sucked IMO. I had a Toyota previously and it was allot easier to get things repaired. I guess my next step will be to contact Nissan North America and complain, and if that doesn't work I'll contact the Better buisness bureau.

Rust

Same problem that I had with my 04SL ... Glass company sublet. Dealer fixed
it under warranty... Actually I think they ate IT !

TURNED RIGHT AROUND AND TRADED FOR AN 07 .. I was told " IT WILL COME BACK " ....

The second fix was pulling the glass and sanding it down re-paint ....

Also had the same problem. I was lucky enough to see the rust about 6 months after the new glass was put it so Nissan warrantied the work. What a pain in the butt.

IDK but i wouldn't give 2 shi*ts. I'd go higher, and complain. What if it happened after 12months? it's 2 years old! And was due to a recall! Not like u did it on your own. I'm all about customer service, i wouldn't take this.

FIGHT THE POWER!

I have the same problem. I also had the skyview replaced, and you can see a couple of nicks where it is rusting and there's an actual spot where it's bubbling underneath. I have yet to go to the dealer, my car is still under warranty so we'll see what happens...

*Another Update* I spoke to the service manager at thomas Nissan again andasked for his regional managers phone number, but he would not give it to me. He told me that I had to call 1800nissan1. So since the dealer was no help I called Nissan North America and complained. They told me to pack sand. They did agree that the rust is probably due to the recall, but they would not fix it. They said that I should call the glass company and complain. The funny thing is that I was never even told that they were going to send my car to a contractor to replace the glass. As far as I knew only Nissan technicians were going to touch my vehicle. So I guess my next step will be to contact the glass company that did the work, but I don't think they will be of much help. After that I may try to write a letter to the General manager of the dealership and to Nissan again. This is really frustrating. I shouldn't have to drop $700+ on a 2 year old car due to rust. This is definitely my last Nissan... Their customer service has been poor since day one.

Just a warning ... For those who Nissan took care of .. Find out how they fix the rust. If they didnt pull the glass and sand it down and primer it then painted it ... expect it to come back !!

Repairing it with the glass in place is the WRONG way to do it and the repair was cosmetic ..... The rust that you cant see is what will get you .... !!

4 years old true but still a problem. Just found rust again in the same spot that the dealer fixed and was trying to remember when I had it repaired, thanks 04pearlwhitemax for saving me the search!

And from what I have read the corrosion warranty it 60 months (5 yrs)/unlimited miles.

I need to find out if mine is warrantied again from the time of repair...

This come out of the manual for my 07 maybe it will help some of you.

CORROSION COVERAGE (PERFORATION FROM
CORROSION)
Any body sheet metal panel supplied by Nissan found to
have developed perforation (rust-through) due to corrosion
in normal use is covered for 60 months, regardless
of mileage, except for those items listed under “WHAT IS
NOT COVERED”. No additional rust proofi ng applications
are required. Perforation is a condition in which any body
sheet metal panel has corroded from one surface through
to another

Man, I don't know why Nissan doesn't do anymore to fix this problem. We paid a lot for these cars and shouldn't have to got through this type of stuff.
