Problem: Gear Shifting

Hello all,
There appears to be something wrong with the plastic that is in the gear shifting section of my 04 Max. I am talking about the plastic that the shifter moves through when moving from Park to Reverse to Drive and vice versa.

Every time I attempt to move the shifter over to manual overdrive, there is a loud clicking sound. Sometimes, the shifter will not even let me up shift and down shift. I don't encounter any problems when using the traditional drive and park and reverse. This only occurs when I move it over to manual. It sounds like something is stuck in there. Just wondering if anyone had any insight. Thanks!!

not sure about an auto tranny, but with my manual, the trim plate just pops off with a little force... might be worth just taking a look underneath.

Do you have kids? Maybe something was set on the gated part of the shifter and it is caught between the slates or even under them? A penny.....
