Suspension help

Does anyone have detailed instructions for strut/shock removal and install? I am purchasing some struts/shocks and springs and would appreciate any technical guidance I can get.

struts=front is 3 12 or 14mm bolts on top to remove, then 1 bolt to take off the endlink and then 2 bolts to take off the strut

shock=rear i had a shop do so because i'm not too familiar with that setup and didnt want a spring to take my head off

hope this helps a little

Ever used spring compressors? Are you sure you have all the tools? 12/14/15/17 mm sockets. 17 or 19mm for 2 bolts on lower strut. Solid jack and stand. WD40, blue loktite.

The rear lower link under the spring must be detached from the knuckle side. Car frame must rest on a jack stand and an hydraulic jack placed under the spring while you remove the bolt. Remove hydraulic jack and then press down on lower arm. Will have to wrestle a bit to get spring out. The rear top 2 bolts holding the strut will uncover an empty cavity. Got to transfer that cover to the new strut.

If its your first time, plan a whole day event. I installed my Progress/KYB, then switched the Progress for Eibach's. I have done springs and shocks many times before but this mod made me curse.

Get the service manual from

yeah mad mike said it right the hardest thing your going to be doing IMO will be the front struts... if your doing the cattman KYB and progress sets...then IE don't forget to use the bump stoppers...lolxz

too long to explain...buh its self explanatory if you have the tools...thats goin to be the pain...the tools...otherwise you'll be good.

Thanks for you help fellas. I couldn't open the FSM attachment on Phatg20's web site. I don't have the .rar format I guess.

Thanks!! I downloaded the FSM for my maxima. After reading through the suspension section of the manual I am confident I can do it. I did this before on my Jetta turbo. I am lucky since I have access to the Navy hobby shop, they have a lift and every tool known to man. I only have to pay about 10 buck to use the stall for a couple of hours. They also have certified mechanics to give you pointers when you get stumped. Thanks for everyone's help I will let you know how it turns out, I will upload before and after pics.

Also, should I replace the front mounts and bearings when I swap out the struts? I don't want any issues after I get everything all buttoned up.

you shouldn't have a problem with those...but if you can get the parts for cheap and don't mind possibly wasting the money then go for it!

wait how many miles do you have on the car...i mean if you have a lot then maybe you should...just take a look at the mounts and see what condition they are in...if they look worn maybe you should if not leave them...i don't they should be good for at least 50K...
