Bad news from my dealership....
I just had my 30,000 mile check up and they told me that I need to replace my fan belt.... it will cost $168.00.... im not to sure if that price included labor... Also my rear brake pads need to be replaced ASAP. Thats another $240.00 i was told....
Can you guys point me to some other options here...
Also, aren't fan belts suppose to be covered by warranty??? I have the 100K mile warranty.

Rear brakes are easy. Did them a month ago for ~$30-40 with ceramics from AZ. I've also dissassembled and reassembled the fronts 2 times trying to clear up a squeak when reversing. Both are easy with limited tools needed.
Haven't done the belt on this car so can't comment. How hard is it to get to the belt tensioner on 6th Gen?
I find it almost unbelievable that a belt on an 05 is already going bad. Also hard to believe that rears are already needed at 30k. I did mine at 50k and they still had another 10-15k left on the pads, but I do mainly highway driving.

Don't circumvent the word filter, it is there for a reason.
The other two really weren't as bad but the word filter thing really irritated me at the time.

You can basically buy any belt for the car at any well established parts distributor. Gates makes these belts for our cars and they are certainly not expensive. It should also be covered under the warranty. It they claim it is not them have it changed by an independant garage that charges less than half. It should not even cost $100 including parts and labor.
Have the rear brakes done by a good garage other than this stealership...they are way too expensive. There are a lot of independant national chain garages that will do them for much cheaper. I had mine done for half of that and I paid for and bought aftermarket pads and changed the rotors with aftermarket. Make sure you get them cadmium plated so that they do not rust. The aftermarket ones will cost the same as the Nissan parts and will outperform them by a long shot!
Oh and by the way. 20% stealership = 30 % real life...you still have almost a third of your rear brake life left and the rears take far longer than the fronts to wear out...in my opinion you could easliy go through an entire winter and have them checked again in the spring.

should i buy the hawk brand pads or just get the OEM pads? I dont want anything to void my warranty and cause stress on my OEM rotors...
Sorry but i dont have the cash to buy rotors too..

Hawk HPS pads and have the Rotors turned if you have not done so already: The rotors should last you another year or so 15K miles, after that they will warp while cooling down after driving through the rain.

Dude you can do the brakes in half hour, even if you have never done it. I did mine last year for the first time ever, front and back took one hour total. 85 bucks for all 4 pads and 1 hour of my time. A retard can change brake pads. Trust me you can do it.

UPDATE GUYS....
i called my stealership on Wednesday. Apparentley, there are 3 belts in my 05 Max. the 140.00 charge is for replaceing a 3 belts. Even though 1 of my belts is cracking, they go in and replace all 3 belts in order to save on mechanic time later on....

Anyhow a UDP = Underdrive Pulley. A UDP reduces the speed of accessories (AC/Wipers/etc) relative to the crankshaft speed. The claim is that this can significantly reduce parasitic drag on the engine, increase horsepower, torque and gas mileage, and by turning the accessories slower, extend their life, etc. Some claim to increase HP up to15HP. I've never had one but I've been told that the literal weight negate any benefits they bring. Cost $150-$200 for a 6th Gen.

What he said maybe with the exception of "the literal weight negate any benefits they bring." as I am not exactly sure it means.
You can check em out here:

There are Under drive pulleys or just a lightweight pulleys. I just figured since they were in there with all the belts off the pulley is only one step away. Like I said, I wish I would have asked when they did my belts Some guys here replace their own, but I'm not that brave.

hmmm... i may pass on the pulley. Being from arizona, i need my A/C working at top speed... Our summers here last 10 months long, so I cant afford my A/C going slower or crapping out. Because I know Nissan will blame my A/C error on the pulley.

fan belt and pads
You shouldn't have to replace your fan belt unless they are squealing. At 30K, I don't see how this is the case. The brake pads cost about 20 bucks a pop, and can easily be done by yourself. I would see if you can get a hold of a maintenance book.
