New 20" Tires = Rough Roads!!!

I just bought some 20" rims for my car and some Falken tires. After driving away from the tire shop, i noticed the road bumps and pot holes more. It seems my 05 SL has lost its soft road feel. Is that normal since I bought bigger tires and rims????

well, i guess that is what you sacrifice (smooth ride) in order to get the ELITE look....

total for rims and tires $1740.00

When its time to get my nismos, i will sell my 20's....

pictures will be posted this weekend after my Max takes a bath...

bigger rim = less sidewall = bumpier ride

that's just the way it works

Exactly you sacrifice comfort for looks, just be glad you didn't get 22's.

2Leet4U,

Thank you for bringing this up. I'm sure it obvious to the 'habitual modder', but to those of us just testing the waters, I never even gave this a second thought.

When it came time to renew the rubber, I was more focused on performance parts, and didn't do my homework for rims. I stayed with the OEM ones and just got Yokohama tires.

One question for you though, since you are an SL. I thought that I would love to have and RSTB and FSTB. Wouldn't that stiffen our rides? Would that defeat the purpose of having an SL?

Merry Christmas,

Swee

yup...I just got 20s...and I got this too. One thing I noticed also was that my car at low speeds seems to turn left and right by itself due to the slope of the road more. I'm not sure if this is caused by the heavier wheel/tire or not...any ideas?

Yes, my "SL" no longer exists with 20's and coilovers!! The mian thing you will notice is the road noise (next mod louder speakers for you!!) When I was on Eibachs with 20's the ride was pretty close to stock, but if you want to look good you have to sacrifice somewhere!!

Swee - Yes, they would definitely stiffen our rides a lot more. Both SL and SE's have crappy fast turning abilities. The SL has better shock absorbers than the SE. I hope that answered your question.

povartrader - OMFG man, im glad you said that. my 20" are doing the same exact thing. I seriously thought it was because of low air in 1 of my tires or a bubble/defect. Im still going to have my tires balanced and looked at by the stealership. <--that maybe dumb, but they know my Max more than anyone... lol

Thats is one of the reason I stayed with 18" when buying new rims. With the car being lowered already and NY roads I don't need it any rougher than it already is.

Nice man, you got new wheels, love to see that. Yeah with thinner tires, you definitely feel more bumps. Does the road noise increase too?

maxdout04 thats really not a good deal he got on those 20's, to be honest, he got raped. i live in the san francisco bay area and out here 20's with tires go for about $950. If you want 22's, $1300. 24's $2200. Out here nobody ever buys new tires, we just get new rims and tires. its cheaper that way. and these are for brand new rims and tires. chrome. obviously if you want name brand rims like DUB, Foose,Dvinci,Asanti,Giovanna, big names like that your looking at maybe 2-3 hundred more for each set of rims. for example the rims you got on your car you can get at any shop for $950 out the door. thats one of the reasons why we have so many scrapers with rims. everybody out here rides 22's or better. 20's are so 1998. i thought rims were also cheap out there where you stay.

Bro where im at in the fort lauderdale area any kind of NAME rim is crazy priced (example my rims are sendel s-12's) not a big name but i paid $2400.00 3 years ago and now im looking for new rims but even 20's are still $12-15 hundred just rims unless i buy online but we know how that is with fitment issues or balancing or they send you 1 rim that doesnt fit besides i think im going to go black with chrome or even a stainless lip wheel and see how that looks on my ky2 color.

Quite the opposite. Front and rear strut/shock tower bars are chassis stiffening mods. If anything, they should make the ride better.

If by chance you meant "RSB" instead of "RSTB", though, that may be another story -- a rear sway bar (RSB) will make you feel it a little more when you hit a bump with one rear wheel and not the other. But even then, I would be shocked if it made the ride intolerable.

southeast first the brands i am talking about are brands like velocity,u2, unique, panther, calli, cabo, tyfun, brands like that but like i said if you want brand name rims fro example 20's with good tires your looking about 1200 out the door. my brother just got foose speedsters with nitto fro 1250 20's. so i dont know what you guys are paying but obviously your getting raped. and i am talkin about chrome wheels.

Anything bigger than a 20" tire for a maxima is impossible to find. So if im living in 1998, so be it!
Just because I spent 38.00 more on my rims you think I got raped.... LOL
you must be counting your pennies or must be on a budget... If you really want to brag about prices, lets talk about the cost of a house or condo in San Fran vs. a house or condo here in Arizona... HA!!!

But anyways, I think I got a good deal on these rims and tires. They may not be the best brand, but they still turn heads...

Here are the pics, check out my car domain page....

you didnt just spend 38.00 dollars more you spent almost 800 dollars more considering you said they are not name brand and there is a lot of options for bigger than 20's. your car looks good but just stating that is a lot of money to spend on 20's. but i do realize that not everywhere are rim prices this cheap but just looking at it from my perspective. keep up the modding.

Its the guys money leave it alone. You can't compare things that are different. If someone got XYZ Model 1A Rims and CDC model S120 tires and you are quoting those same part numbers than thats one thing if you are comparing million differrent things then it makes no sense.

Someone may buy brand name rims, say RAYS for $1500 someone else may also get brand name rims, say VELANO for $6000, did the person that got VELANO get raped, NO, Absolutely NOT, they just got better/different rims and most of all they could afford it.

Just because rims are not brand name it doesn't mean they are necesserily bad rims. They might as well be of much better quality then some of the big name pieces.

THAS ALL

i bought 18 inch falken rims and matchin tires for my old galant and then dropped the car on top of that, man what a regret, i mean the car looked sick as f@ck, but damn, slowin down for potholes (i like to drive fast ) sucked and pebbles on the road felt like boulders, plus add the fact that i purchased prob 2000$ worth of tires because of flats ($150 a piece). so when i got the max i vowed no rims, no drop, f--- it, the stock 18's look nice as it is...

...although secretly i picture her in some 22s dropped with low pros

Thanks guys for the compliments. I actually plan on seeling my stock rims and tires. Maybe 180.00 each.

As for my factory sticker... hahahah dood, its not a sticker.... I dont know if you remember but i post a questions awhile back asking how to remove stickers and emblems off the back of our maximas.

Well, when i removed my Maxima emblem, i found out that the dealership sticker is actually painted on. WTF???? Some of it chipped off, but im worried about using liquid remover. I dont want my car paint fudging up!!!

Yeah those dealer emblems/stickes/paint? suck. I'm glad they don't do that here in Cali!! If so that would be my first mod!!

And for the record I paid $2000 out the door for my wheels and tires.
