OPTIMA RedTop R-34

On advice from Optima, I purchased a Optima RedTop R-34 which has the POS+ and NEG- poles reversed on the Battery. Properly ortiented in Max battery well, the POS+ is towards the back as it should be,but, I cannot get the battery cable connected to the post due to the added "stuff' affixed to the end of the cable, even removing the "red" housing will not allow me to connect it. Looking at old OEM battery, the posts are much closer to the battery edge allowing for easy connection. NE1 know of an adapter or a fix, or something that will allow me to use this new battery? Returning the battery is kinda cost prohibitve. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
