Tweeter doesnt work and Nissan wont fix under warranty because I installed a sub

So my left tweeter has very little sound coming out of it for a while now, there is more sound coming from it when the radio is on than when a CD is playing, but in both modes the sound output is very low. I finally decided to take it to Nissan to get it fixed because I am sick of it not working and they said that the warranty on any audio parts is now voided because I installed an aftermarket amp and sub. Yet, the problem started BEFORE I installed it so this pisses me off. Everytime I need warranty work done, I have problems. Anyone know what might be the problem with my tweeter?

Study up on the Magnuson-Moss Act. IIRC, they need to demonstrate/document exactly how your sub modification is responsible for the tweeter problem.

I never said anything about a speaker, I said that my front tweeter is not working. Its my front left tweeter that is mounted on the door.

The dealership didnt say that they were sure that me adding an amp and sub is what caused my tweeter to blow, but all they are saying is that they will not cover any repairs or diagnosis fees to any audio components simply because I modified the stock setup. They wont even look into what the problem is unless I want to pay for it, but yet all of my audio components are supposed to be covered under my extended warranty.

fine, here is an easy fix.... remove the sub box and amp. take it to another dealer and tell them the tweater doesnt work....

if you cant remove the box and amp and if another dealership says no.... your screwed...so cough up the money to get it fixed....

You will have to decide whether it is worth pursuing or not but the Magnuson-Moss Act is a Federal law that is your friend in this situation.

So I remove the sub and amp. Okay, what about the 4 guage power cable? What about all the other cables I have there? I dont think nissan is going to think that all the wires are there for decoration and no there is no way of hiding them all either. Yes I know, I have no options then, I understand, I just wanted to make a thread on the topic. And to see if anyone knows what may be the problem.

I had a similar problem where the drivers side front speaker had very low output with CD, but normal with Radio. They replaced the main headunit (under warranty) as it was the culprit, not the speakers in the door. I think others have had similar problems in the past too. Not sure if there is a TSB out for it.

I agree also they have to prove it was your set-up. Call the Nissan 800 number and they should set up a meeting with a rep to meet you at the dealer.

Go pitch a ***** and talk to the manager. Simply bring up the Magnuson-Moss Act and you may just scare them into helping you. Be persistent and know what you are talking about, if they think you are just another Joe off the street they won't give you the time of day. If you come in with some firepower and they may change they're tune.

Or....time to upgrade your entire system!!!! (I love excuses)

Yea Im pretty sure that I need to replace mine as well. When I get a chance, I am going to take a look at the connections in the back and make sure that its okay.

Maybe I will give this a shot, but I have to tell you, I have called the nissan number many times and everytime they have done nothing for me. But I will give it another shot. Thanks
