Well i'm planning on getting some rims soon, but I can't decide between 20's or 22's. To me, I just think 20s look tiny, but then again everyone I know has chevys on 24's so it could just be me. I know 22's will be a bumpy ride, but I'm used to it.

I posted this in the 6th gen and not the tires forum because I want opinions from people with the same car as me.. I'm wondering if you all could give me opinions on this, maybe someone whos had both, or somethin like that, thanks.

Howmuch do you drive your car? if you put decent miles on your car I would go with 20's or you will be going through tires left and right. also think about the roads where you live can 22's on 30 series tires handle them? Bigger is not always better.

 

Every day, the roads really aren't bad at all around here, they're trying to renovate the area so they can kick us out and move the rich people in ya kno? So the roads was like the first thing they did. I plan on getting another car in a few months, so I'm not worried about replacing the tires too often..

I got an idea, 21's? Or would that be more expensive than 22's just because the tires are harder to find?

 

i have 22's and my max is an se and to me i really didnt notice a difference from stock to 22's but others will disagree. i also noticed a big difference in the brand of tire i was using. when i bought my 22's, they came with nitto 555 in a 255/30/22 but those lasted me about a year and a half and now i am running toyo proxes 4 265/30/22 all the way around and my car feels a lot smoother. i have stock suspension as well. my rims are 22x9. if you need any other info just let me know. by the way, i think 21's are more expensive because it is a off size. not too common.

20's are perfect for the 6th gen Max's. But hey if you wanna roll 22's then doz it.

Just wondering, Does ride quality matter to you? Your ride is going to be very harsh with either set of rims.

 

Please for the love of GOD do not buying the 20s if you are thinkingn about buying something bigger. I have 20s now and after I see how much I get drilled on taxes 22s are coming. I have had my 20s for only 8 months and I regreted the 20s 2-3 weeks after buying them. The car is too big for 20s, they look like they are being swallowed up by the car. My 04 has the Eibach springs which looks nice and even but the wheels are too small.
I have the Kuhmo tires and the ride is so so but the wear is pretty good.
Just my .02 and DO NOT buy the 20s.

 

I totally disagree with your statements.....20's are plenty big enough for the car, 22's do look good in my opinion but i can tell you from experience that you will not like the ride or the wear and tear of the 22's. If your car is swallowing up the 20's you have more problems than just your rims being too small!!!!! Just my .02!!!!!!!!

I would definitely stick with just 20's. I think they look plenty big enough...especially if you're dropped. I don't know your financial situation, but consider how much more expensive tires will be for 22's. You're going to be more likely to get a flat and/or bend your rims if you ever do hit a pot hole. Plus, 22's seem like mostly for bragging rights.

 

I don't think the 20" look small, to each his own. I 've got 18" and am very happy, would eventually go for 19", but 20 or 22 in NY, NOOOOT!

 

20's should be fine especially if ur dropped

Why would you even bother spending all the money on wheels when you are getting "another car in a few months" Unless you mean a 2nd car and you won't be driving that much....

And as for 20's being too small, I also disagree. I think my 20's fit the car perfectly and 22's might even be too big for my taste....02

It is just me and my maxy and feel that the 20s are too small. I am not trying to ruffle any feathers but they are pictures of maxs' with 20s and 22s you should look before you purchase some new wheels.

Those look good. I would consider those on my Max. I will check to see how much.

 

maxima is a big body car, no disrespect to those with small rim sizes but anything smaller than 20s look like crap on our cars, think hummer with mini cooper wheels, think a really fat 400 lb dude with tight @ss size 7's. theres just too much space left empty around the wheel well. stocks look fine cuz of the bigger tires, but ridin around on 17s with lo pros on a max will get you some funny cross eyed looks on the streets.

if ure goin big might as well go with deep dish 22's/

you cant argue with the pics, now this is in no way a shot at people who have smaller rims, i know theres many of you out there that dont like the look, or have their maxes geared for performance (ramberg nice ****) and dont want the added weight that comes with big rims, but if ure in it to style on people then u need the 22's!

also another thing to think about is when you want to style on people it also draws extra attention. Bigger rims have always done that. I think 22's in some areas is just something else to be paranoid about. too flashy IMO. I think 20's are fine.

You do realize that, by putting bigger "rims" (the actual big round thingy that the tires mount to is actually called a WHEEL, the rim is the outer part of the wheel) on your car, you are effectively increasing the overall rolling diameter.

The rolling diameter on any given stock Maxima wheel, whether it be 17" or 18" is the same. Nissan just uses lower profile tires on the 18" wheel to achieve the required rolling diameter. (I used the 2007 model year as a reference, as I'm sure the Maxima had 16s at one time.)

By increasing the rolling diameter, you are doing a number of things to your car. 1. The speedometer/odometer reading is no longer accurate. 2. You are increasing the amount of stress on your drivetrain. Believe it or not, you ARE making your car work harder, especially if you like to accelerate from a stoplight like John Force. 3. You are making your beautiful Maxima look like crap (matter of opinion, of course).

I know this will fall upon deaf ears because, sadly, the size of the wheels on your car has become some sort of ghetto status symbol...mostly among those of lower incomes who actually finance their new, shiny "rims." Brilliant.

 

I do not feel that big rims are all ghetto. Big rims on a nice car is so fresh and so clean but big rims on a buy here pay here car is ghetto. I guess I feel like beating a dead horse but the pictures are great. I enjoy my car but I would prefer the look with 22s. Come on people think about what your saying, for all of us with 20s saying that 22s are just too much, what the hell are 20? Because 20s are not overkill any car and they should be stock on most cars, but 22s now that is ridiculous. ?????

I wouldn't go so far to say ALL 22's on a 6th Gen would be ghetto, HOWEVER..most of the 22's that I've seen mounted on 6th gens are just huge chunks of chrome that do look ghetto. Its all a matter of taste though.

 

It's all a matter of preference I guess. I just think anything over 20" is overkill on the Maxima. A nice set of wheels should complement the overall look of your car. 22" rims are just too much, and almost as if the car is being dragged by wheels alone.

 

I thought that too until I moved to Plano, TX which is predominately "non-minority" families and middle to upper middle class people in general. I'm telling you people from all financial backgrounds and from all races bling their rides out.

For example my house sales agent is a 40 something, with a kid in college, married white man with at least 22s on his Navigator. Just the other day I went to Walmart and this middle aged white couple had a brand new 2007 Escalade with AT LEAST 26's but could have been 28's. Those are just a couple of examples of the middle-aged white people I see up here with massive rims on their rides.

 

You need to chill the hell out. First off, I'm not throwing 30"s and a lift kit on it, so I'm not worried about the drivetrain too much with the two extra inches. Second, this thread is MINE and as such you really don't have the right to post that you think what I'm asking about is "crap". You could be mature about it, like several of the other people who voiced their opinions and say it's simply not your preference to throw big rims on the car - but you choose to outright be a complete d!ck and use more sarcasm than I even knew existed.

I hate it when people think they're smarter than others, and then make themselves look like an a$$. Brilliant.
