Should I get my wife a 6th gen???

Here's the deal, my wifes current car 04 SAAB 9-3 Arc is going back next mth (lease is up) and I need to buy her another car. Normally this is a non-issue and we would just pick a new car to lease for her. However she now wants to buy something and keep it for a while (good luck with that) I know that if it she makes it 3yrs I'll be amazed. My 4th gen is not getting any younger and will be 15yrs old at that time, so I'm thinking her 6th gen could replace my 4th gen when she decides she needs a new car again. Do you guys think the 6th gen cars will have the same long life reliability as my 4th gen???? My 96 has 98k and other than regular maint (alt/starter/ing switch) the car has never let me down. I don't mind keeping a car for an extended time (good thing with my wife..lol) I've had the Z32 since 1997 and the Max since 2000. I would plan on keeping the 6th gen about 10yrs if I buy a low mile 05 or 06.

Funny the 4th gen was the only car we could agree on last time we bought her a car... it lasted 2yrs before I got it and she got a new car.

I'm not sure if a 6th gen longevity can be determined yet. Well, let me rephrase, the 4th gen has obviously had several years to prove its value and reliability. The 6th has only been around for 3-4 years at best.

I love my 6th and if I had to do all over again, I would. In a heartbeat.

I have found that most vehicles, obviously have their hiccups. But a better bang for the buck? Maxima all the way.

I am a 32 year old woman that moved from 7 years of minivans. So I can be a little more helpful with the female opinion.

Also, my 6th has been bullettproof for the most part, (Little things, like the Bose, and turned rotors once, all under warranty).
I love the 6th. I've owned it 17 months (Bought new Sept 05), and I still look forward to a brisk sprint in it.

There was a guy on here that just recently sold his 6th gen burnt orange with close to 100k miles on it, and he said that he had next to no major problems.

Uhm....... in all seriousness cause its a piece of **** wrapped around a decent engine and tranny and brakes and suspension. S'bout all......

Interior and body will fall apart, mine is an 05 and it rattles all over the place and paint is junk, i love the car, but this was my first and last nissan.

Mine is 20 mos old and 22k miles, no problems so far; lowered with no rattles and garaged so paint is still good as new. As for longevity, it's hard to say as with any newer cars with electronic crap up the @ss.

Thank's for the info guys and girls, I had the wife check out a 06 SE today and she was not "feeling it" so I guess I'll keep looking. She thinks she wants a "sport ute" the only things she liked today was the Murano and the RAV4 V6 Between the two I like the Murano the best, kind of like a jacked up Max. The RAV4 V6 has some "*****" and moves out when you get on it but you kind of feel like your driving a marshmellow when you take a turn. Well see I guess I've got about a few more weeks to find something.

Look into an FX45, it's very quick, and responsive in turns! Many people on the org have them and love them

No for the MAX. Show her the Acura TSX or the Lexus IS250.

yo in all honesty after i drove a 2007 G35x the new one...OMG i can tell you that it is smaller than a max...i believe its in the same class as the altima however that car can move and handle as if it were on crack...

but i've noticed if you don't do any modding to the max the body won't rattle or make sounds...i always believed it was bcause of my springs and tighter suspension why the interior rattles now...buh i could be wrong.

Its not easy selling a maxima to a "wife" but you got to try harder.... has she felt the "heated steering wheel", does she know abt. all the airbags?,
does the BOSE do anything for her?, have you tried the HIDs and shown her,
and finally has she seen the "looks" that she may get out of this car (maybe this one you do not want!!)

there is a lot more ... (the murano only beats it [woman wise] coz of the rear view camera... and that can be done on a max)

my 2 bits.....

show her the NAV, Bose, folding side mirrors and heated steering wheel. Compare it to a Sentra, and then she will feel it! HA!

You have to admit, the Murano is pretty nice. My wife really wants to get one, so I predict that we'll be getting one in the not-too-distant future.

I've had many problems with the car initially. After multiple visits to the dealer everything was fixed. Some were quite expensive fixes for NISSAN. I have been happy since...not that the car doesn't have its flaws.

Have you considered the crashworthiness of the potential vehicle for your wife? Why don't you choose from among those with good side impact protection (unlike the 6th gen's "marginal" rating in this category)?

My wife loves to drive my '04 SL. We bought it in June, 2004, had a few things adjusted/fixed under warranty early on, and have had not one hint of trouble since. No rattles. No torque steer. No leaks. Still original struts. Couldn't ask for anything better.

We absolutely love the way it handles; the heated steering wheel, very roomy rear seat area, being able to push one button to switch seat, steering wheel and mirror alignments when we change between driving and being a passenger, and so on.

Be aware there have been some 6th gen owners with problems. Check out any car you consider very carefully with a meaningful road test.

My 04 Max is still a free spirited b!tch who has performed flawlessly with only 30K miles on her. Only problem I've had in 3+ years was I fried two spark plugs because I did a NoNo by adding a gasoline additive and I had two recall items installed by the dealer on one other occasion.. I think your wife would love the 07 Max...

My wife is the Maxima person in our family. She actually picked the last 3 we've owned! She loves Maxima's and they have been excellent cars for us.

If you drove a G35, it's not in nearly the same league as a Maxima. You're talking about a car that costs about $10k more. AFAIK, the only other cars you can compare the Max to are the Toyota Avalon and Acura TL, they are about in the same price range.

Before I bought this Maxima, I looked at the TL, Lexus IS350, Mecedes S500, Mazdaspeed 6, and the G35. All of them except the Mazdaspeed were nicer than than the Maxima. However, I got the Max for about $26k, which was a LOT cheaper than the others I looked at but provided almost the same level of luxury and features.....it's hard to beat that!
