how to add sub/amp to stock speakers/aftermarket hu?

can you guys point me in the direction of how to go about installing a subwoofer with an amplifier when i have the original bose speakers but a kenwood dvd player? the sticky i found on that didn't really help as it was talking about adding a sub to the bose amp...i've got my own rockford fosgate amp i'm using, just dont know how to do the wiring...

i did a lot of the wiring for my tvs so i'm not that bad i just dont know, where exactly i'm supposed to get power from for the amp and where exactly it gets the signal from...

help please? i have the setup ready, would like to install it this monday if possible. thanks!

From my experience having the aftermarket HU will ease your installation. You'll want to run RCA wires from the HU (either the Sub Out or Rear Ouput) back to the amp. There will also be a remote wire that you run from the HU back to the amp to send the signal when to power on/off. As for the power, usually this is run from the battery terminal under the hood, but other members may be confirm whether or not you can run the power from the stock bose amp. Good luck with the install.

best to run the pwoer from the batt [4guage works best].

i also have the factory bose, i tapped the LOC and remote wire for the amp from there and have it going to my amp, sounds very nice

alright thanks for the help guys. that sounds ok except for one thing.
i still don't know how to hook up the power cable (which according to installation guide from amp would be the red cable) to the battery...
when i put in the extra lcd in the dash i just spliced its power cables with the ones going to the headrest monitors and that works perfect. however, i dont know or think that would be a good idea for the amplifier too, no?

how exactly do i run the power cable from the amp to the battery?
thanks!
doing this tomorrow with 2 friends, lets hope we get it

i brought mine in from teh pass side wheel well, remove the tire and the plastic wheel well cover. i took off the plastic cover on top of the firewall. i hid it to the best i could do and it is hidden! what you could do it get a power junction. like a 4guage power input which splits out to 2 outputs. i.e. one to the lcd and one to the amp.

I can't help you out with where to run the wire as I've never hooked up a Maxima before.. but I'd probably run a high gauge wire, 4 - 8 gauge would be ligit. That way you have the ability to splice and add an additional amp later on.

Just be sure to run the power on one side of the car (sounds like passenger side) and run the RCAs on the other. This will help prevent interference.

we got it working. took my stepfather and me 4 hours to bang our heads on how to run the wires and stuff, but we got it working. i couldn't find the lead on the kenwood for the remote cable, but we tapped into the power cable for my top lcd screen and that worked. had to drill a small hole to go through to the engine compartment and now everything works

now to figure out which frequency i like the most. any ideas on that? i have a control thingy up front that's supposed to let me change the dB level of the bass...i dont notice much difference. any idea? it's plugged in right...

anyone have any suggestions on which is the better all around frequency? right now i have it maxed out in gain and in frequency for the moment, will test out this weekend but if there's anyone with suggestions let me know...

thanks for all the help...it was great!

80 hz is generally a good start for low pass crossover point. but just tweak around until you make it sound good to your ears.

check out the audio forum.

thanks for all the help. i got everything working perfectly now. it sounds like i wanted it, and moreover, i learned how to wire properly...so now i added a pulsating neon light and i'm planning on putting two more inside the car. anyways, here's a picture of how it looks

and i made a video to show how everything looks. in there you get to see the arrangement of my tvs and then how kickass the sub looks with the neon at night...missing from the video are a remote control EQ for the amp i have in front of my seat and an aux rca connection i have hidden under the glovebox for my xbox 360 and mp3 players. video is almost 50MB because my stupid little camera only records in quicktime, but it's only 2.5 minutes and i think it's worth it
right click, save as

anyways, thanks a lot guys
