how to quiet DRONE!!!!

Can anyone tell me how I could quiet my car down. I have magnaflow cat back with some turbo resonator on and it drones so much when I am driving on the highway. I like how it sounds outside the car but not inside. has anyone come accross this also, and has anyone been able to fix it? Thanks guys.

Exactly how big is your resonator and what type is it? You may be able to reduce some of the drone with a larger resonator. Or a more involved method might be to add more sound deadening, which helps with overall external noise reduction.

well

Well the resonator is kind of small, but it was the only one the exhaust shop had. Do you know of any hat I could buy that would be quieter?

I know RH has a 22" Magnaflow resonator and he says he's good to go. This is what I am going to put on next week (y-pipe coming in today!!)

There are tons of generic resonators out there you could add, depending on how much drone you're trying to eliminate, so no one can really tell you what size to get.

As posted above, a 22" resonator should be pretty effective in cutting down the drone, but like I said its personal preference too. IIRC, Cattman is selling a 22" resonator now too and I think I saw that in the GD forum somewhere.

I bought a Cattman exhaust and installed in late November. It has a resonator but the drone is horrible under load from 2000 to 2700 rpm. Is Cattman coming out with a larger resonator?? I need something to improve the drone.

I found that lining the trunk with carpet padding to be fairly effective. I attached the padding to the metal underneath and put the trunk liners on top.

Is it louvered or perforated core? Do you have a y-pipe?

solution to drone? probably not, but it should shape the sound much better than any other ones. after all, cattman released it after noticing that people were going back to stock mufflers.

help

Yeah I might try the 22" resonator or something becuase it is really getting to me. The only way I founf it without the drone was having the stock resonator on. If anyone wants to seel me theirs I will buy it from them. The stock one makes it too quiet though but I have no idea what to do at this point.

Loudness is subjective. The 22" resonator isn't nearly as quiet as stock, but it would certainly help.

I may try DeusexMaxima's idea and line the trunk floor with Dynamat if I can find a good deal on it. I believe my Cattman came with at least 20" resonator so I do not know how much I would benefit with a 22" resonator. I have done all kinds of things: clamp rubber isolated mass dampers on the intermediate and rear y-pipe and coasted almost all of the floor pan with 3M underbody coating and still no real solution.

Some of you know I had a 2006 Nissan Altima SE. To that, I added the NISMO exhaust. The NISMO intake as well. It sounded GREAT at wide open throttle or while standing idle and the power increase was amazing. It was a sleeper whenever anyone thought a debadged Altima was just any other car. That being said, highway or constant speeds
(2,00 RPM) however, the "drone" was AWFUL. And it wasnt the intake.

Not to add a negative vibe, but I tried EVERYTHING under the sun, including carpet padding most of the trunk, rear doors, and underneath the rear seats. There was very little, if any relief.

There was a discussion a few months back about this topic, but it seems anytime you have a "dual muffler" exhaust, you are going to get the drone. Only a single muffler system will not have the drone.

Miy Alitma was so bad, I get rid of the car. And bought a Max I am not even gonna touch the exhaust on this thing. I have the intake and sways. Anything else, and my wife would make me drive a Corolla.

.

It will drone unless you have equal length headers.

Also, try dual louvered cored resonators on each pipe (if you do not have equal length y-pipe and/or headers)

did anyone in here keep their stock resonator by any chance? Maybe I will talk to the exhaust shop and see if there is anything they can do for me.

I think any straight through muffler will give you a drone, regardless of single or dual. I've had three different single muffler set ups on my car and both straight through mufflers droned big time while the baffled muffler did not. A bigger resonator will reduce drone on the straight through set-ups, but will not eliminate it completely.
