Auto Dimming Mirror Question

I have the auto dimming rear view mirror. Because my windows are tinted so dark I like to have the auto dim turned off at night. Everytime I start the car the auto dim is turned on, and I then have to turn it off.

My question is, is there a way to default it in the off position?

Not sure. You're saying that your mirror light on the mirror itself is always on when you first start the car?

Mine is off after my husband drives the car. I think he hits the 'mirror' button accidentially when he really means to hit the homelink button for the garage door. When I get in, I like to have my mirror on so I have to turn it on when driving.

Mirror

In my '06 Max, I turn the mirror off...so the green light is out and the effect of dimming headlights behind me is gone....the next time I start the car, even If I only stop for 2 minutes, the green light is back on and the dimming effect is back on.

If your rear window is darkly tinted, then your auto dimming mirror really will not dim!! even if it is on!!

I have the lightest shade of tint and after putting it on.. noticed there is not much difference in the view with the autodimming on or off.

That hasn't been my experience, the back window, and back sides, have black limo tint. With the auto dim turned on it gets hard to see the headlights behind me, turning off the auto dim makes a big difference.

I had the auto dim on my '01 but the back window wasn't so dark. I didn't have the problem there.

It sounds like there is not a solution to the problem, I guess the mirror is always on unless manually turned off after each restart.

Thanks for the replies all.

The man has tint, he says there's no difference, he wants the mirror off. Why do people get off topic? Just because you may think there's no difference, this is his thread. The question is, how to get it to stay off, not how you think he shouldn't do that.

I have an 04, and mine stays off if off, on if on, no matter when the car is started/shut off.. so it sounds like a glitch to me. What I think could work for you, is to check the fuse box inside the car to see if the mirror has its own fuse, if it does, PULL IT!

Thanks

My 06 turns on anytime i start the car also. As stated above, look for a fuse or see if it can be unplugged and that should do it.

if there is a fuse for just there mirror, simply remove it. (after it is in the mode you want)

or if that will turn off other accessories, open the mirror housing and disconnect a wire to the mechanism
