I definitely have an interest. I wouldn't care about blocking off the EGR as long as it doesn't throw a code. Otherwise whatever tube you design should be fine. I can't see a flex tube causing any problems.

Will we see any additional power with a disruption to the EGR?

P.S. Thank god I no longer live in Chicago and have to do emissions tests...

By deleting the EGR system, it will prevent hot, dirty exhaust gases from recirculating back into your intake manifold at part throttle. That warms up the intake manifold a bit more. At WOT, the EGR valve stays closed and does not allow the gases to recirculate. By blocking the EGR, in theory, there will be a gain in power. But it's minimal.

$215 for about 10whp sounds like a good $ to whp ratio. About what you get with CAI intakes it seems. Will this be hard to install, say vs intake installations. (Sorry for the newbie question but I'm not a big on mechanics)

It's very easy to install. All you need to do is unbolt your intake tubing, unbolt the elbow and intake manifold and remove it. Attached to the IM are just a few breather and vacuum hoses.

Once the upper IM is off, then you just need to unbolt the lower IM. That is only a few more bolts. There is no need to release the fuel pressure since you will be leaving the fuel rails attached to the lower IM. Once the lower IM is free, you lift it straight up and set it on the rear valve cover with the fuel hose still attached to the fuel rails. That's it. You just smear some RTV on both side of each spacer and install them one at a time and make sure they match up to the intake ports properly.

I will be releasing instructions on how to install the 5.5 gen kit within the next couple weeks. You will be able to download them straight from my website very soon. The only difference in the instructions will be that fact you will have to unbolt your EGR tube before removing the IM.

That's it. It's not too hard at all. Just don't drop anything down into your intake ports or you are screwed!!!

This tube should increase the price of the kit by $35-55 depending on the flanges that will be needed. Since the VE and VG tube has those metric male and female fittings, the production cost on this tube goes WAY up. I have this tube made in India b/c the correct fittings are impossible to find within the US.

But, if all I need is this flexible metal tube TIG welded on CNC'd flanges that I will make, then I can make these within the US and the costs will drop considerably. The total price of this kit will be around $260-$280.

The other idea is to reduce the thickness of the UIM spacer to match the thickness of your stock gasket. That way, your stock EGR tube can still match up. The total price of this kit is projected to be around $215. But it will not help as much as the kit made for the 5.5 gen.

Another idea is to block the EGR system. That is usually not an option for almost everybody here b/c of emissions in their area. Plus, it may not be easy tricking the ECU into thinking you still have an operational EGR system.

Please let me know what you guys think!

If anybody else is interested in the production of these spacers for the 6th gen, please post in this thread so I can get a good idea how much demand there is.

Thank you.
If it will fit the 3.5L EGR Altimas, count me in, and I vote for the flexible EGR tube addition from you, along with the full height spacers, no cutting down on the spacer size to match the existing gaskets, that defeats the purpose IMHO.

Yes, I am pretty sure the EGR Tube will fit the 3.5 Altimas.

The flexible EGR tube is a VERY high quality tube. This is not cheap natural gas hose!

I don't know how much the performance will drop if I decrease the thickness of the UIM. But from the looks of the dyno, the VQ35 REALLY likes having lengthened intake runners and a cooler manifold! I am not interested in releasing a subpar product.

even adding $30-50 still would be well worth the gains... I say do what you have to do to make the most power... and keep it legal. I got laws to obey here.

Yes, my spacer is matched perfectly to the lower IM. So, it will work flawlessly if the Kinetix IM is properly matched to the stock ports, which I'm sure it is.

This is the spacer I was talking about 2 years ago. The HP gains are amazing for such a low price compared with changing the intake plenum. I'm in...how easy (or hard) is it for the stealership to install this mod and does it affect your warranty? BTW can you guys believe the HP ratings on the 3.7 liter G37 coupe? I hear that it produces over 350 HP while running up through it's gears! I can't imagine what that would be like to mod! I can imagine though a moded 3.7 producing close to 400 HP with normal asp. What's next? A supercharger or TT with 500 HP?! That would be sick! This car might come with x drive and 4 wheel steering (the 06 has 4W steering already) ....oof that would be one monster. Quite good bang for the buck too! I should stop dreaming. Actually I can't wait to see then new Altima 3.5 SE-R in Red with a body spoiler kit, dropped and modded....This is going to be one hot car...as long as it's a 6 speed...the CVT might slow it down. I also like the new G35 engine with the twin intakes>>>nice<<<.

Nissan is trying to make the Maxima the luxury car and the Altima is taking over the 4DSC title, from what it seems.. they'll still offer a manual tranny in the Altima.

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been out of town this past weekend.

I don't think the Nissan dealership will install this modification. I don't think they will install ANY aftermarket mod not made and approved by them.

I can't comment on the warranty. That is something you will have to contact Nissan about. Hopefully, others can chime in about how their Nissan warranty has treated them in the past.

Tell her you're ordering 2 of them to save money. That way you only pay shipping once. And it probably increases your gas mileage too. Yeah...thats it..thats the ticket.

I already used the "gas mileage" excuse to get the Fujita CAI. We'll see.

In all seriousness, will this fit the Murano? I get some pretty bad gas mileage in that sucker (CAI on order)...

Does it have the same intake manifold as the 3.5L Maxima? If so, then there is a good chance the kit will work if there isn't an EGR system. I have not tested them on the Murano. If you want to order one kit for your Maxima and test fit it on the Murano, that will be fine. If it does fit, you can always order a 2nd kit. If you are concerned about saving on shipping costs, contact me directly and I will help you out.

I dont think I need to worry about an EGR system because mine hooks up to a flexible hose now. Right?

I have not designed the 6th gen kit yet officially. But I thought the tube that connects to the upper intake manifold is a solid tube with flanges.

Look in the picture below. The circled part of the UIM is where the EGR Tube connects. Is that EGR tube flexible on the stock 6th gen Maxima?

If the intake manifold is raised by a 1/4", do you think the EGR Tube will still bolt up to the UIM?

just went out to confirm on this, the egr pipe is indeed solid tube.

No the current 6th Gen EGR tube is not flexible, it's solid (see post #39) thus that is the reason for the new flex tube. If the spacer is added, you will need the flex tube to remain emissions compliant , but like some have said in the thread earlier, not really required but with the flex hose addition (which IMO is superb quality) will help speed up production...

Thank you. I was pretty sure it was a solid tube.

I am more than likely going to use a replacement flexible tube. According to the FSM illustration, this tube is probably less than 12" in length and has two simple flanges on the ends. Those flanges should be easy to design, CNC Machine, and attach to high quality SS flexible tubing. The costs for this tube should be below the $55 tube that some of the VE30DE guys need b/c the large expensive metric male and female fittings should not be required on the 6th gen. The costs of this tube will drastically drop since I probably won't have to go with my supplier in India to have it made b/c of the special fittings.

My Kinetix manifold comes with a flexible hose which connects to the EGR tube and goes under the manifold. Its made of braided mesh. I can use a non EGR spacer!!

I gotcha. So they don't replace the actual tube? They just connect a flexible tube to it and then run it to a different spot on the IM?

My EGR tube will replace the stock EGR tube since it must bolt up to the stock location on the stock IM.

If you want a non-EGR 02-03 Maxima spacer kit, then please follow the thread in the 5th gen forum for the latest updates. It's possible this kit might be available for sale as soon as this weekend!

I have a number of questions (sorry if they were answered in other posts):
1. I guess the basic reason that hp is increased is due to reduction of intake temperature, correct?
2. Is there any gain due to the slight increases in volume from the added space?
3. Isn't a large problem of intake temperature due to the fact that the intake body sits right above the firewall exhaust manifold? Would exterior insulation assist in this problem?
4. Would porting the lower intake manifold be helpful, especially in my case where I have the Kinetix intake manifold?

No, but my Kinetix manifold has a provision for bypassing. Might be a good idea.
