The 2004 Maxima has the 67mm shifter while the 2005-2006 Maxima has the 55mm shifter. Previously, the 2005-2006 Maxima did not have an STS available. Its about tim someone made one for the 2005+. A guy named Companyman on here was going to make an STS, and he used my car to check out the dimensions and so forth but I never heard back from him.

Yeah but does this one keep the shifter in its centre position? Or does the shifter get a slant towards the driver?

just comes with the pieces for under the hood. you dont touch the in cabin part.one piece does the shortness and the other peice moves the cable mount so that there is no angle on the cable and the shifter in cabin is at the right place.

I know your part of the nissanclub.com...go over there and under SER there is a thread about it.

You can make your own STS for <$5 in parts. Just search for it.

edit:

I just took a pic of mine.

You only need a M8x1.25 tap and a M8x1.25-20 bolt.
Drill and tap about 10-15mm into the metal so the bolt bottoms out.

$5STS

Um no. My car is 2k2 and I am using a 2k4 gearbox.

None of that crap matters. Spend the $5 to have a STS or spend $120 for the same effect. Your choice.

I will try to get you more pictures tomorrow after work.

my bad, i just remembered looking at other pics that the 04 has the grey bracket[67mm] while the 05+ has the gold bracket [55mm].

i was just asking for a better pic of how you drilled the hole, maybe a better angle pic?

thanks a lot!

the color of your tranny shift bracket doesn't matter. you need to know if it's a 67mm or 55mm. drilling and tapping for a bolt will work on the 67mm. it will move the shift pattern forward into the dash because the cable end has to move forward to fit between the post and the tranny bracket that lifts the assembly up and down when you move the shifter lever left to right. a shoulder bolt would be a better choice.

you could also buy one of the cheap one piece STS's and do the same thing. by the time you buy a good cobalt split point drill and a good tap you will have spent about the same money.

none of this will work on the 55mm tranny shifter because there isn't enough room.

And just look how professional your comments look. Bad perception because you failed to read and notice that I have a five year old car and the flimsy shifter bushing needs to be replaced. A recent occurrence might I add.
And there couldn't possibly be any reason why I specified a M8 bolt. :attention

i didnt look at the year car you had..i figured it was a 04+. I appoligize for that.
I was not meaning to be degratful if thats how i came across...mainly i was trying to make a point that i would not want to drill a hole in my shifter arm and make it have a weak spot.

next time i will keep my comments to myslef

Hey I didn't twist anyones arm, nor tell anyone NOT to buy the STS. All I did was offer a much less expensive alternative. One which I have sucessfully used for over three years now. Of course it isn't for everyone. But many people will appreciate the info.

So with the 5 dollar mod can u still move the shifter away from the dash afterwards?

Mine has worked perfectly for three years now. The shifter sits dead center in neutral like it's supposed to do.
