Front grill film/overlay?

I was noticing that the center of my grill appears to have some kind of film or overlay covering it. A couple of stone chips are showing up very shiny, chrome like and the film will scrape away with my fingernail. Ne1 know of something that I could use to remove it completely? It looks as if the grill "nipples" have the same film/coating on it

I've seen dealers replace peeling grilles. Might be worth a try...

You know, I'm having the same problem. On the front grill, the area where logo lays is starting to peel. I have other friends whose cars are older w/ more miles and no peeling. I rained last week here and I noticed it there was a bubble. It looks like there is plastic wrap or something.

My car is an '05 gargage kept, never seen snow w/ just over 15,000 miles. I called my dealership and they said there wasn't a recall, but for me to stop by. I'm hoping they will replace it. If not, I'm going to call Nissian. That's SAD....

A number of people with the early 6th gen's had the same issue. Poor clearcoat on the grills. Fix was just to replace them. Supposedly the newer grills have a better process, not sure about that though. Got mine replaced under warranty. I had bought a billet anyways, and now just store the new-old one for when I go to sell the car.

good fortune for U if they do something about it, really reminds me of all the "american" cars here in Vegas and elsewhere with the clear coats totally destroyed. I do not have any other problems except for the front grill. Since mine is OUT of warranty, anyway to remove it completely? would look better than ok if the "plastic wrap" could be removed I think.

A quick (not the cheapest) option is to replace the grill with AT or similar grill. LOL

only other place for the clear-coat chipping/peeling is the bumper. Make sure to check all of the corners and under the bumper, and if it is bubbling, then get a razor blade, slice it as close as you can and use touch up paint to, in a way, seal it and prevent it from "growing" and bubbling more. That's exactly what I did!

My '06 is doing the same thing... I am gonna try the dealer first, if no luck there I will probably experiment with something custom. Has anyone painted portions of the OEM grill with any success. Specifically I am thinking of painting the edge and centre badge portion to color match the paint.

I am going to order the AT grill as soon as I get pictures (hopefully this weekend) from briancopland of the mesh. I don't want to order the wrong mesh type and the site doesn't show the mesh too well.

Hint, Hint, Slide a piece of paper behind the mesh (black or white) and then take pictures to show the mesh.

For those of you who have AT grill, can you snap a picture of the mesh only and PM or email it to me?

I have had 2 grills replaced on my 06 under warranty for the peeling. The last on was at 35,930. Obviously they know there is something going on. The only question they asked me was what I used to wash the grill?!

replacing front grill

When you get a new grill from the dealer? Do they just give you the new grill to install your self and you get to keep the old one???

Mine was slowly peeling untill about 2 weeks ago when the whole clear coat started falling apart. I already ordered the AT grill but do you guys know if the dealer would change it under extended warranty. I would then sell it to an interested party. My old grill will be seeing some custom moding. Jay, do you know of any place that sells quality mesh material?

you can replace it under warranty easily if its bubbling or cracking. Just show the dealer and he should replace it for you

hi i just washed my car two days ago and actually my grille looked exactly like yours and i tried to peel it out with my nail. but to my surprise i took the pressure washer and i went a little close to it and it was just blasting it away. now the middle nose section is a brighter shinier chrome than with that stupid clear coat. i went to the coin op the pressure was great there. hope that helps. dave

I've got a 2005 Max and had the same problem with the front grille peeling, apparently, 2004-2006 Maximas all have this problem.
I just got my front grille replaced under warranty.
My 2005 Max is still under normal warranty, plus I took out an extented warranty that covers me to Sept./2012 or 120,000 Km.

Yeah, I just received and installed my AT grill last friday. Its similar to the one chernmax has, except that one is no longer offered (company out of business). Yeah, that grill is still my favorite but the AT I just got looks good too, better than I expected but not perfect.

Some of my grille has peeled, but the rest has not. How do I get the rest of the film off? I don't mind the chrome color underneath.
