FYI - COSTCO is about to have their semi-annual sale on BFGoodrich tires starting on April 16th. I've been running the BFGoodrich G-Force Sports, which are AWESOME and similar to the ones in your link. COSTCO also includes, road hazzard and lifetime rotation and balance for a price that's lower than tirerack.com (during the sale). Check it out.

Bottom line, if funds are short, HOLD OFF, the OEM tires are more than good enough to handle our Max. When you get the funds, then buy a quality set so we won't be having this conversation 1 year from now. Never let your ride restrict your lifestyle. If funds are short consider a BillMeLater account and get something quality and performance wise from Tirerack.com or Discounttires.com.

Good luck and unless your driving on wheel thread, wait, JMHO...

I have the other 2, but wouldn't sell them to a fellow Maxima owner since they're rolling balloons. And wow, I never really realized that most cars have 4 tires, what a novelty of an idea

The tires look good but have a fairly low life for an HR tire, not saying you will but since the Max is a 140+mph rated car, getting a tire rated with a Max speed of 130 mph may not be in your best interest... Tires like brakes are an extremely important element in your cars handling, performance and stopping ability, this may be one area you may not want to skimp on...

Question, how many miles on your RSA tires???

they were replaced before i bought the car from nissan back in 8/06. maybe around 10-15k now?

yeah, i was kinda surprised to see a H rated tire for 18's. most ive seem were V or higher. i know the higher letter you go, you get a higher speed rating and the tires are softer [stickier].

So many variables and actually speed rating in not always tied to the tire composite. You can purchase a ZR rated tires and one may last 45K miles while a stickier/softer may last 20-25K miles. Only your driving habits know for sure...

I spent several weeks looking at every rating service I could find, and reading hundreds of 'user experience' posts and comparing prices before deciding the best tire for the price for my type of driving was a tire handled only by Discount Tire (they have stores in your area - Dallas).

It is the Yokahama YK520 225/55X17 (I have an SL). It is V rated, and, at $128, is not dirt cheap. But 'name' tires of high quality were considerable more expensive, and actually did not do as well overall in customer ratings. I have been extremely pleased so far with their performance.

This tire drew rave reviews in every category by posters on Discount Tire's rating board. It is easily the all-around best-liked tire of its size AT ANY PRICE by Discount Tire customers.

I would hope it is also available in a 245/45X18 for the SE.

Tires are very important, and price is often no indication of how good a tire really is. I feel I am in a better position to buy after reading hundreds of customer opinions; customers who have a combined mileage of millions of miles on a particular tire.

10-15K is not a whole lot, you should contact Goodyear and they may partically or fully pay for a replacement as a result of the tire defect. Goodyear has a customer service number you can call (Google it!!!), they will then ask your location, give you a claim number, and send you to one of their authorized tire service centers, if it's determined to be defective they may replace it outright or cover a percentage of the cost based on mileage. My boy Ramberg has done this twice with the RSA's due to side wall cracking issues with the early RSA's and I also have done this successfully with BF Goodrich for 2 tires on my wifes SUV.

Chern, are you talking about riken? They wwear great..

RSA UTOG Rating- 260
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...irePageLocQty=

Riken Raptor - 300
http://www.tiresdelivered.com/prodde...085647&cat=948

Heres your link, I got them from tires delivered...and I lied, they are $107 each..whats that, $200 less per tire than the RSA? For that price who even cares if they dont wear the greatest...but the kicker is that they infact wear better than the RSAs which wore like iron....cant lose here.

No I'm referring to the original posters tire link, as for wear the softer the tire the faster the wear. Harder tires will wear better but braking, performance, handling and top speed will be adversly affected. However if all you do is cruise, these will be great tires...

As for RSA's, I took them off my car the first chance I got!!! However I never had any problems with them. I just prefer BFG for the things I do...

I can vouch for Riken Raptors, they are made overseas by Michelin and are quiet sticky tires for 100 bucks each, had some on a Mustang and they made the car drive like new. The Dunlop SP Sportmaxx tires are also very good replacement tires for these Maximas, much better than the stock Goodyear RSAs. I have nothing good to say about any Bridgestone/Firestone products.

I agree with the above tread. I purchased the Dunlop SP SportMaxx and it has been the best replacement tires yet. I purchased the Sportmaxx from Tirerack.com for $121.00 per tire, however, there is a $100.00 mail in rebate. Which is still considerably cheaper than Riken but better quality.

Yes because it's an OEM tire for the vehicle. And anyway when you buy a car, you don't get a separate receipt for the tires...

Remember you're not gaining anything now by doing nothing, doesn't hurt to try... Good Luck...

They are decent tires (I had a set on my car recently) but the sidewall is pretty soft and the ones I had, exhibited a rather strong radial pull to the right. I compared them directly to RSA'a. The RSA's handle better for everyday light weight driving. The Maxx's had WAY better grip, quieter, and better ride quality than the RSA's. I found at very low speeds the Maxx's howled. Once up to speed they were quiet tho.

The TireRack actually recommends the KDW2's for our cars. I ultimately chose the Bridgestone 050A Pole Positions. This is the best tire I've had on my Maxima (I have had plenty).
Very quiet
Smooth
Pretty stiff sidewall
No pulling in any direction
Outstanding in wet conditions
Good driver feedback
Decent looks
Asymetrical Design (maximum rotation ease)
Fast Steering response
Not terribly expensive (like Michelin's or RSA's)
Stays balanced

Smoke - I have not driven the Avons, but they came in 5th of 15 in my study of all 225/55X17 tires (for my SL) based on reading hundreds of reviews and analyzing every review and rating system I could find.

Living south of Atlanta, I did not rate on snow and ice performance, so those up north need to check out www.discounttire.com or www.tirerack.com or some such site if that is a factor for you.

The Avon seems to be a good tire. Not the very best, but far from the worst. And the price of the Avon is usually not much over $100. Not bad, especially if on a budget.

Hi Guys,

Up here in Canada...weather permitting...f*ing weather....it snowed up here twice this month so far and they are saying that we may get more tomorrow night! We have had 2 x 4.5" of snow and broke a 65 year record...so much for global warming! Our temps up here in Montreal are well below seasonal norms. Should be 55F with 35 nights instead we're barely hitting 45 and it has gone below 32 several times. Now they're talking maybe up to 18 inches of snow tomorrow! WTF! My problem with all of this is that we have had a terrible winter with so little snow that we managed to go skiing only once and even then it was a challenge...that's ok, I love a challenge but that's another topic. So now that we've put everything winter away I had started looking at a new set of 4 tires and my choice was Hankooks. 245/45/18-8 They look beautiful and a set of 4 came out to under $900 tax in. Our tax is 15.5% That includes road hazard and installation. Unfortunately that's a lot more after you factor in the exchange than you would pay for a great tire in the USA but hey that's Canada Eh. 4 Falken 452's would be 245 ea. before tax!
So I put everthing on hold for now until the weather improves....I hope our summer doesn't suck too! Eh!

20" Chrome Wheels & Tires

Hi Guys, I'm new to the site. I'm from Canada.
Just bought a 2005 Black Nissan Maxima SE and I am thinking of putting on
20" Chrome Wheels & Tires.
The stock size tire is 245/45/18, I would like to install 255/45/20 tires on these Rims.
Besides the speedometer being out a bit, are there any other issues that I should be concerned about, such as, enough clearance and rubbing issues.
Will 20" wheels & tires(255/45/20) work on my 2005 Max.
I would rather not go with a lower profile tire, such as 35's, if I can avoid it.
Thanks.

If your rims are at least 8.5" wide, you can use 255's instead of 245's.
Rims that are narrower than 8.5" will tend to make the tires look like it's squished onto the rims.
If you go with 255's your speedometer will out by 0.81mph @ 60mph,i.e., If your speedometer reads 60mph, you will be actually be going at 60.81mph, which is perfectly okay.

OEM 18' inch wheels are 7.5 inches wide.

With a profile of 45, 245 is the maximum recommended tire.

With 8 inch wide wheels the maximum 45 profile tire is 255.
