According to my 6th gen shop manual fluids and lub section: manual transaxle fluid capacity is 2.2L (or 2-3/8 US qt). It recommends genuine Nissan manual transmission fluid HQ Multi 75W-85.

WHATEVER U DO!!!! DONT USE THE STOCK SIHT!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!

Talk to TalkingHorse in the group buy section. You'll get a better price then that and you will get Origional AMSOIL Synthetic GL4 gear lube. My tranny runs like a champ with this stuff in there.

Take Care,

kam

To me almost all stock fluids are the cheapest most cost effective products. I prefer a company that specializes in lubricants, that is race/performance proven and basically has a better preserving capabilities under more strenuous use.. because face it, most stock fluid is not designed to handle in any case my "spirited" driving...

upgrading fluids to me goes hand in hand with upgrading parts.. you can't expect everything to like more or prolonged performance..

You're preaching to the choir. I know that certain aftermarket synthetic lubricants are better according to my experiences with how they change shifter feel, but to say stock fluids are absolute crap without empirical evidence sounds foolish, frankly.

With that said, amsoil for me.

To give you a scientific explination.....

I drive my car like I stole it, I drive it on the track and I drive it to work.

When I had OE Gear lube, morning shifts were hard and I felt like i was grinding gears. Since I put in AMSOIL at 22,000km the tranny has been working like it has been designed to work..... rather well.

Now at 49,800km the tranny is still perfect and shifting smooth.

But the best person to ask is il_segniore97 on the nissanclub.com forum, in the 2002+ altima section. I dont want to copy his biliatic answear here but it has something to do with the the way the lube is made and its additives that makes it far far superior to the OE crap.
