Rough cold engine shifts....

Seems when my engine is cold, I get a fairly hard "bounce" between 2nd and 3rd gear. After a few miles the transmission is liquid smooth and you would think the car was new. Anyone experience this or have any tips or comments?

Alex, I could be nasty to you and give you just the same answer you gave to CoolMax05 ;

But I wont. From what I understand you are asking a legitmate question and hope for a legit answer. Kind of similar to what Coolmax wanted.

I get the bounce or jolt at increment of 10 starting at 19mph. For example 19mph....29mph....39mph. I have learned (thank you Lightonthehill) that it is the tranny and it is computerized. According to Light IIRC, that they are more advanced than what we are used to driving. I have also learned that it is ok. I just give it a bit more or less gas so as not to hit those increments while coasting. It is irritating. I have taken it in, and they told me because it isn't even throwing a tranny light at me, there isn't a whole lot to be done. That is how this tranny acts....

Perhaps that's why Nissan tauts the "no shift shock" CVT. I am not a fan, and that is for another topic. I guess you could say that I have learned to live with it.

This is a given with any car when the transmission is still "cold"

Is it always that way when you hit those gears, like in stop and go traffic, or only when cold?

Mine does it (I think anyway) all the time. Now I'll have to pay attention to see.
After expressing frustration, I have answered your question.

Mine is an 05 just hit 20,100 miles and it has been doing that cold and hot and sometimes when slowing down i get a jerk and the engine revs like when you gear down a manual tranny. I also would like to know if something is wrong. I took it in twice in the past and they told me that they can't find anything so my next solution is to get the service writer to take it home on the overnight and feel exactly what i'm talking about. Also they say it's nothing major because the light would come on but i know for a given fact that there's lots of times that codes are stored and there's no light. Just my input plus my situation.

i guess they are talking about the " AT CHECK" light or maybe a check engine light. the whole things is that for most part if you don't have a light on they would not even put the computer on the car to look for stored codes that's what i'm talking about by the light. Also check this out the first time i went in for it my battery was a little weak and the writer said to me that they charged it up for me and that the weak battery is what could have been causing my jerking when the tranny shifts. Guess what she's not there anymore. Whan the present writer realised that i'm in the same job feild that he's in then he relates to what i'm saying side note i work for a cadillac dealer as a prep manager so i'm around cars all day long i had 4 cadillacs before and never had a jerking tranny but i've experienced it with brand new cars and used cars and even customer cars so i know when something is not feeling right. The only this is that this is my first nissan that i've owned so i know some makers tranny shifs a little rough so i'm trying to get a feel and info as to how these nissan trannies operate. This is why i'm trying to go as far as i can with the dealer and give them different chances to see if something is wrong before i take it a step further and possibly put a call in to nissan. Sorry for the long post

I would suggest you check www.nissanhelp.com and search the TSB's for your model/year. Some tranny issues just require reprogramming. Ask the dealer if they could read the codes. I dumped my tranny oil at 17,000m. The downshifting seems less obvious now.
