17" tire recommendation

2004 SL that my wife drives. Every day driving in city and highway. What tires do you recommend for normal conditions with no snow? Car came with Continentals and they suck. 225/55-17 thanks in advance.

Burny - Check out Discount Tire on their website to see if there is one near you. After spending lots of time looking at every rating service and customer 'opinion' blog I could find, the tire that was uniformly liked by almost all users was one Yokahama makes exclusively for Discount Tire.

The official designation of the tire is YK520, and I bought them in your size: 225/55X17. I found them to be an improvement over my OEM Contis, and have been very happy with them. My son has them on his TL, and he says this tire has slightly softer sidewalls than his OEM Yokahamas. As a result, they don't corner quite as sharply as his OEMs, but give a clearly more comfortable ride. He likes them.

And the price? last fall, they were $128 each. This spring, the price was down to $122. I think I saw them on sale in a Discount Tire ad for $116 several weeks ago. At any rate, they are affordable.

Tires for the 07 Maxima

I recently purchased a used 07 Maxima SE. The tires are a bit less than half worn. What tires are you guys using as replacements for the OEM 245's? Prices look to be $250-300/tire! Any suggestions? Tommyturbo2

Goodyear Comfortred

Just bought Goodyear comfortred for my SL. They are super quit, comfy and provide very good traction on dry and wet road. Waiting for winter to try em on snow. But so far I am more than happy.

SL suspension is softer...meant for those who prefer comfy ride over sporty.

These goodyear comfrotreds provide the comfort. They are much much much better than the OEM conti tires.

I had problems with balancing. Went to NTB and they couldn't balance em even in 3 tried. So, finally got my dealership to balance them. Dealership uses hunter GSP7900 machine for balancing which is the best in the market.

my $0.02

When its time for me, I am leaning towards the Bridgestone Turanza Serenities.

HAHA funny you say that, I only put on the 17"SL rims for winter use, and oddly enough the stock Conti tire has been more the sufficient for our winter roads.

But when I took my GF's car to get some tires for her lil honda, there was a guy there with a 2005 SL getting Toyo Prox4's re-balanced. Dude said they were so much nicer then the Conti's because the grip was out standing and had less deflection on cornering.

Now mind you the SL is a 225/55/17 tire. So u have a lot of sidewal to flex there, if you end up getting a cheapo tire and press the car through a corner you will be riding on the sidewall and not the tread. (SAFETY RISK)

Good Luck amigo.

I, like Lightonthehill, have the SL and opted for the Yokohama YK520's. They're all season, have a great mileage warranty and are reasonably affordable.

I cannot recommend these enough.
