The new model is set for 2009, it's supposed to look very sporty, wild looking.

The concept will be testing at the end of this year (supposedly, I bet they're testing it already), which means it should come out mid 2008.

The '07 does not have less HP; the government changed the way HP is measured. Beginning in '08, they will change the way MPG is measured, and the stickers will all show a lower MPG.

The 7th gen Maxima has been beaten deader than a dead horse here for many months. It will be bigger, more powerful, more luxurious and more expensive. That much we can discern from Nissan releases. But most details are under wraps.

It will reach dealer lots in spring of 2008 as a 2009 model (much as the 6th gen reached dealer lots in spring of 2003 as a 2004 model).

The 7th gen will bear no resemblance to any prior Maxima. It will be not only be luxurious, but also have a sporty side. It will put a very clear gap between itself and the Altima, which is itself a very fine car.

But those looking for a 4DSC at a very reasonable price; one with available manual tranny; one with lots of mods available? That role is quietly being passed down from the Maxima to the Altima 3.5.

As to the diesel in the Maxima, that will not be available early on. It will probably arrive no sooner than the 2010 model. And it will be unlike diesels we have known and loved (NOT) over the years. Forget the smoke, the smell, the rattle; the Maxima diesel will not have any of that stuff. And if Nissan is telling the truth, the Maxima diesel will clearly be over 300 HP.

The consensus is that the Maxima will stick with FWD, but will also have an AWD option. I would expect to see the first spy photos later this year. But it will be difficult to spot the real 7th gen Maxima spy photos from pictures of every product Nissan produces in every country of the world which over-eager fans will post here as 'the 7th gen Maxima'. It never fails.
