How to 'unsticky' the cupholder latch?

Has anyone else had any issues with the 6th gen's cup holder latch getting sticky? I try very, very hard not to eat or drink in the car, but lately I've been making many several hour trips that require this. And, unfortunately, I think some soda or some other sticky substance has caused the latch to become sticky and not function very well. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Any ideas on how to clean it up? I've tried simply getting some moist paper towels to try to dissolve some of gunk, but that only works for a little while and then it gets sticky again.

Thanks!

Use some sort of soapy solvent and spray it into there. After letting it sit and trying to scrub it with a detailing brush, use pressurized air to blow out the rest of it
