great thread in mustang forums..mustang vs. maxima

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...tter-than.html

I am pretty surprised with some of these mustang owner responses! Some of them actually RESPECT the maxima and can accept that fact that a family sedan can tear apart a mustang... :-D

When I bought my 05 SL (Slowest? yeah right) in Dec. of 05, I found that thread also. I loved the kids comment about how they were comparing apples to oranges, because 'there are two different choices for engines' and everyone I guess was comparing the 3.5 to the 6 cyl mustang...

He obviously doesn't know his Nissan's.

When you are die-hard for one thing or another, it's always hard to consider the competition better than the one you chose. That kid thought that 'a nissen' was junk. His sliding scale was obviously way off course.

Although secretly, I do like the looks of the new/retro stangs.

exactly! lol I do like the look of it, but lets look at the facts. They think that maximas/350zs are "rice" and "junk" first of all, nissan engine tones are WAY underrated, not like the cars with a huge exhaust that have ~130 hp, second, they are not rice unless you MAKE them rice. Thirs, lets look at this...a maxima...3498 lbs, 3.5 liter engine and 4 doors...im not sure of the weight of a mustang, but 2 doors, bigger V6 (i think 4.0 right?) and all cannot keep up with a maxima. and I know we can keep up with most V8 stangs (ive heard many stories of maximas walking on 5.0's) they just cant face the fact that a 4 door import can compete with their "sports car" simple as that.

(I love the quote where the guy says "I've suspected that those new Maxima's were quick. I haven't had any try anything at all with me in the 'vert. I use the scare tactic of making sure they hear me before they see me. The vast majority of people driving one of those will think if it's that loud, it's gotta be fast. Man if only they knew the truth."

(now I would call that ^^ American rice..loud and slow)
And I am NOT hating on american cars..I dont like the cocky drivers that drive them. Just face the facts.

They have higher opinions of the car then we do

well when friends see my car..with power seats/power steering wheel/power folding mirrors..dual climate all that jazz...there like ohh yea big family luxury sedan..slow *** car..bla bla bla...than when we take off there eyes get all big and there like "DAGGG!!!! this sh** is FAST AS HELL!!" so I can see where a lot of mustang owners get their opinion of these cars being slow.

yea i started reading more and more threads and I had to close it..due to the ignorance of some of these people. i do appreciate the people who stand up for the maxima though. But never driven one, they dont know how incredibly smooth the engine is, and that its been on ward's top 10 list for HOW MANY YEARS? and how long is it gonna take ford and whatever other american companies to start getting POWER out of their V6's?? geeze! WAKE UP ford...it is not 1970 anymore...you can get over 250 HP out of a V6!!!!

My co-worker went and purchased a new Mustang V6 with the GT package. I was impressed with the way it handled but no go. Took him for a spin in the Maxima and after that he kept saying how his car was low on horsepower. I beat an early model Mustang and it was very easy, second gear did all the work for me.

I won't bother to read the other thread. I'm sure there's a lot of the same chest thumping BS that this thread has. "Me Tarzan, You my *****!" I love both my Maxima and my Mustang. Maybe the Maxima is faster than the V6 Mustang. Is it a fair comparison? A $30,000 Maxima compared to a $20,000 Mustang? I'm sure those $10K can buy a lot of mods to speed up the Mustang. My Mustang is a 96 Cobra and I know it can kick my Maxima's *** in both speed and handling. The only areas the Maxima wins are comfort and fuel economy. Is it a fair comparison? The Cobra still has a bone stock four cam V8, and the Maxima has it's stock four cam V6, but both cars cost $30,000 when new. Actually, the Cobra was $27,000 but at the time no dealer would sell for less than $3,000 OVER sticker. Anyway, again, I don't think there is a fair comparison between the two. I have both, and I love them both.

I think that one guy (yes, the one who was thinking of an Altima) just couldn't deal with being wrong. He changed his story a bit halfway through the thread... he made me want to sign up and bring that thread back from the dead...

and I don't think either car is really all that fast.. I'm a GM guy... over there they actually make some powerful engines.

I hate how they compare the v6 mustang , when the maxima is realy just as fast as the V8

Since you a member , please link them to this http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...fc0128dc13.htm

God the ignorance on that forum makes me want to vomit. I like the 05+ stangs but thats about it. I raced a 01 gt with exhaust when i had my 02 6spd with intake and b pipe, we were dead nuts...... from a roll of course. Cobras are fast but i never raced a stock one(02 or less we all know 03 cobras are sick), a modified one got buss lengths on me lol. Def not impressive and the interior on those years is horrible.

one of them in the thread mentioned that Japan's claim to fame in sports cars was the "Skyline"...

was'nt that the same bloodline as the Maxima?

I'm w/ you on this one. My 96 mustang will walk away from my 06Maxima....but it took a lot of work for me to get my 96 GT to where it will do that. If my mustang were bone stock, the Maxima could possibly beat it. But once again, like you were saying....my mustang was 6K less than my maxima brand new. That 6K could go a long ways as far as power goes in the mustang. Mustangs are geared from the factory at anything from 2.73's to 3.08's, or 3.23's. All of which are horrible low end gears for speed. The potential in a V8 stang is so much higher than what they give you off of the assembly line. Now as far as a V6 mustang goes, I don't know much about the 4.0 liter stangs, but the 94-04 3.8 liter mustangs were pretty weak from what I saw. So I'm defending neither car, as I love both of mine. Both have their place and both are quick, bottom line.

Ok guyz here is the deal on this situation, A mustang GT 5 sp car will walk all over a max, Stock for Stock there is no comp, Now for $5K you add a Whipple Supercharger and now the GT is 475 to 500 RWHP, You could spend 10 grand on the Max and still not get close. Lets realize what the Max is a nice comfy 4 door sedan not a Sports car or a Muscle car, It can look nice but performance the Max nor the Z have the same Potential as the Mustang. Now this might offend some of you, But I build custom cars and Motorcycles and For the Money The Gt is the best performance car for the Buck Period. I know I just got done putting a Big brake kit, Lowering kit and a whipple Supercharger on one and all I can Say is DAMNNNNNN!

What car do you drive? A stock Mustang GT will not walk all over a VQ35 Max, certainly not '04 and earlier. Try again.

um, a 96 GT was the slowest GT they ever produced, I'd say.. first year of the 4.6L.. slower than the previous 5.0L... I'd probably reword that to say "the Maxima could DEFINITELY beat it"

I really hope you're only talking about an 05+ GT... for that matter, what VQ engine are you talking about? I know the only stock GT that'll "walk" my VQ35 is either a classic (maybe) or the 05+ ...

I have toyed with a few 03-04 gt's and didn't have much trouble hiking on them. It's just personal experience. Proof is in the pudding my friend. (F650's are monstrous man)!! If you're into that, I have a truck to sell you. www.bigbunks.com
