help with install on Springs
Hey everybody. I've researched the install of the progress springs here on the org and seemed so simple. Everyone says do it yourself. (coolmax's, writeup with the pics was a huge help). So I decided to give it a try.
Anyhow, everybody says the rear springs are the simplest, so thats where I got started. Jacked up the rear on stands. Placed the jack under the boot and got the nut off but couldn't get the bolt that holds the boot to the spindle. What am I missing? Seems so simple, just a little tap tap pull and should be out. Won't budge.
Any suggestions?
Also, got the gr2 for the front and rear. Do I need to take out the back seat to get the the two bolts for the rear struts? Or are they stationary?

A common mistake is not jacking both sides of the rear up at the same time. This should be done. You end up with the entire back of the car on jackstands (2) and your hydraulic jack free to support the down force of the spring.
The hardest part of the rears is (yes) getting that one bolt closest to the wheel and lowest to the ground out-and especially back in again. You must situate the hydraulic jack with just the right lift and be patient and diligent.
Feel free to hammer it out/in with light taps. Also, continue to turn the bolt with your rachet and it should slowly come out to a point. Then continue to pull it out with big pliers or whatever. Be prepared to replace the bolt and nut (it's a good idea).
Please be extra careful because safety is always the most important factor. You are dealing with high spring tension. Make sure your jackstands are very secure. Just remember there is always going to be some finite amount of resistance keeping the screw from just coming out freely. You must counter that resistance *within reason* with "the force". Use "the force" Jedi, and you'll be rollin' low with dignity in no time (too many Star War movies).
It does not help you right now but I have plans to do a video of this in the near future. Best of luck and may the force be with you!
PS feel free to PM me anytime and we will exchange phone numbers so I can give you "live" phone support.
I agree, Coolmax05 is the way to go. He's very knowledgeable and willing to help with "live support" that is.
We (my daughter and I) did it with the help of some of the best people on the planet. Blackmax96, NCSU_Max, Ritz and Joel! They were so careful in teaching/showing us how to do this. I am indebted to these men. We had a blast. When you have someone to do this task with, you are supposed to go out and celebrate afterward.
The rears are by far, the easiest. Be careful!

Ou of topic well not really.. sorry... but I lowered my car with coilovers and the rear has soem mad camber.. like negative -2.33 you guys know how to manage fixing that... The car is about 6 inches off the ground... The front aligned perfect but the rear not so much with some Ksport coilovers... Thanks

First the bad news...there are no rear camber kits (that I know of).
Second the good news...the rears have adjustable camber.
When I lowered my car mine were -1.6 & -1.1 degrees. This was done with Progress.
The alignment tech adjusted them to -.8 degrees.
The most negative they can be and still be in Spec is -1.13 degrees.
My question to you is the -2.33 degrees after it has been adjusted as positive as possible? If so what was it before? If they told you they are not adjustable get your money back and take it elsewhere.
Secondly can you post a couple of pictures from the the side of the car so we can see how low it actually is. This will help us determine a couple of things (about 6 inches from where?). Also seeing as tho the height is adjustable what happens to your camber when you raise it to just 1 inch below factory?
The more information you provide the more information you will receive.
Vague statements will produce vague answers at best...
Not trying to be a hard azz just trying to help.
Best of luck to you.
It is night time right now... But when it gets day light I will take some pictures.... Well actually... my brother is a mechanic and I was there to do the alirnment,... and we got the bolt all the way it could go.... and still had bad camber... Ill try getting you guys some pics...
Do you guys know if any of these from a G35 Will work???
